Noticed the other day when I went to walmart that the 7mm-08 ammo was right at $30 a box and it wasn't anything special just Winchester powerpoints. Even the 6.5 CM ammo was $19.99 a box which seems backwards to me. I reload so it's not really a big deal to me but just doesn't make much sense when I can go buy a box of 308 for $20 a box which is the same brass and can be necked down to use in a 7mm-08, it takes close to the same amount of powder and the 308 has a heavier bullet. Production volume if I had to guess. I would imagine 6.5Creedmoor is outselling 7MM08 right now 10 to 1. That is me totally guessing but I'm probably not far off.

Agree doesnt make sense. I almost didnt buy my first 7mm08 after hearing things like this but. I went online and found it not to be the case. its everywhere online and for good prices with just a couple minutes of looking. Prices below arent sale prices. I can usually twice a year catch it on sale and stock up. Another member on here and myself found federal premiums loaded with Barnes bullets a couple years ago on sale for what started out as $14 a box with free shippping, and ended up they dropped them to $10 a box with free shipping. I bought the last 1000 they had when it hit $10. Usually can catch fusions for $15 a box or less, and the AW for around $12 once or twice a year. Someone had corelokts for $16 a box not long ago also. . Unless its a sale locally i run across all my ammo purchases are online. I find what brand/weight each particular gun of mine likes and i will stock up on it when its on sale. Online... American white tail $15.50 a box. winchester PP $16.47 Federal power shock $17.20 winchester super X $17.30 Federal fusion $19.40

I have never understood the concern for ammo prices in the context of what most here spend in time and money on hunting. What difference does $20 vs $40 a box really make? I shoot Barnes Vor-Tx in my 7mm-08. Have fired 5 rounds this year; 3 to confirm gun is still on, 1 to kill a boar and 1 to kill a nice buck. So; thats an extra $5 for the season for the gun and ammo I trust. So what? Maybe I will drink one less Bud a month to compensate. Preach!!!

Why people bitch about spending $30 a box for ammo which will last most people 2 seasons or more is ludicrous.

FDH it's all market research. There's quite a number of Savage 99's in upstate NY and Central coast of California guess where you can find .300 Savage ammo? Western Canada has smle enfields and .303 ammo. Remember the ammo companies have access to powders we don't so the 7/08&7mag probably closer charge weights than you'd think far as brass/primers go they make them by the millons so they don't care how much because everybody needs ammo. My most prolific season as a steel shooter I shot 3600 rounds in competition and 18,000 in practice the guy who finished above me did the same 3600 in comp and 22,600 in practice. Imagine a 3 Gunner who shoots 55,000 a year in practice.
Only hits count.
