For all you newbies or thinking bout rolling your own here's some tips about actual loading.

NO TV cellphone kids naked ladies calds hyenas open flames radios or distractions NONE!

Much as I like talking loadings promise I'd be quiet as Wiley Coyote's suppressors in presence of someone else loading. Feel is very much part of the process and quietness helps. Best thing is only work with ONE powder at a time. W231 is great but W760 makes a mess loaded into a .45 acp case. No I didn't seat a bullet but I did STOP and CHECK. Some y'all handloaders chime in y'all newbies ask. No such thing as a dumb load question.

Only hits count.

I recommend newbies dont load rifle and pistol starting out stick to rifle until you get the hang of it then start loading pistol. I dont even reload pistol anymore wasn't worth my time especially after stopping competitive pistol. Now I just buy 1k at a time if I need it for a class, match or practice.

Keep your booger hooker off the bang switch.

When I began reloading I did it all wrong I guess. I started loading pistol and rifle stuff all at the same time. I bought a ton of stuff from an older guy, and it made financial sense. My biggest trouble starting out was deciding what 'technology" to buy and why. Really, the basic stuff will make ammo, but if you have larger dreams then maybe its best to buy out someone and then add the upgrades as you can. I started with an old RCBS (pre rock chucker) press and a TON of stuff that I had no idea how to use. It worked out for me, but not everyone has the mindset to make ammo. If your not a detail oriented person then this is not for you. If your in a hurry, dont have time to dedicate to the project then this is not for you. Honestly it your in it solely to save money then its probably not for you. I doubt I have broken even yet (probably cause I like gadgets) and I have loaded a lot of rounds. Just since changing over to Hornady presses I have about a half a 5 gallon bucket of spent primers. Find someone who does it, and offer to help. Most folks who enjoy reloading also enjoy talking about it and absolutely will enjoy showing off their craft. My .02-- probably not worth it.

X2 on what Dave said about NO distractions. Some other good points above. :

Your FIRST priority must be SAFETY. Reloading is not difficult, but can have disastrous results if not done properly.

Only ONE powder canister for the cartridge you are loading on the bench. Keep powder in a separate cabinet and only get out what you need. I pour powder into the dispenser and place the can next to the dispenser.

Create a procedure for loading and follow it, EVERY TIME.

Do NOT start loading until you have read a guide and understand how to do it SAFELY.

If you aren't sure about how to do something, ASK

You AIN'T gonna save money. 😀 Biggest myth about reloading.

what Dave and 338 said about one powder out at a time and put it up when done.

loading the wrong fast powder in a 25/06 ONE TIME will drive that point home for good. Been there, done that, have the burnt black t-shirt to prove it. And FYI a 60 gr bullet driven at 4500fps will disintegrate BEFORE hitting the target......

Some handgun ammo can be bought pretty cheap now so it may not be a huge savings to reload BUT it’s very important to know how to do it and have the stuff on hand so you’re not at the mercy of ammo shortages or price swings, not to mention whatever bullchit some politician might come up with. Plus it’s a lot of fun working up loads and getting one dialed in to a particular rifle.

Main thing is read multiple reloading manuals fully so you understand what you are doing before you start and double check everything you do.luckily my dad has always reloaded and I was right there with him and I spent alot of time learning and reading manuals as a kid years before I was old enough to have my own place to set up for myself

This is how I learned to load.

I watched Youtube videos and coordinated what I was reading with the video so I fully understood what I was getting into. Now, some videos are a little less than what I'd call "by the book" so ALWAYS go by the book on load data.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
