Hey guys, I’m up at Smith tomorrow. Looking for someone who knows what’s up with stripes and wants to fish. I have some equipment, but probably could use someone with their own rigs. I’m in the Arley / Stoney Point areas. I’ve spent too long not knowing what I’m doing...

Best advice I can give on learning stripe in a certain body of water is to hire a guide who specializes in stripe on that body of water. Stripe roam around like a pack of wolves and can be in one place one day and not be there the next. Guides that know the water stay on top of the stripe constantly. They know what's up and can give you tons of information that will allow you to find them in the future. Hire a guide and mimic what they do and listen when they speak. I'm a stripe fisherman myself and i can tell you from experience that you can learn more from an experienced striper guide in a 4 hr trip than you can own your own in 4 years. Get in there and ask questions and listen. Guides are worth every penny if you want to learn stripe. If there ever was a species to hire a guide for, its stripe.

Dang it man. If I had more notice I would have went. Im heading there in a couple days. I was away on Vacation and just got back, so I have to work this week getting caught up.

They are in their winter pattern, meaning they are heading to spawn...even though they really cant. They are in the creeks...Ryan creek, racoon creek, way up Clear creek...well any creek in shallow, skinny water.

Its planer board time generally here now. You troll 4 planer boards out from your boat at 30 to 60 ft, ( two each side) with ten foot leaders off your boards. We used to run all live bait, but some floating, suspended swimmers like Rogues should work. Also trailing bucktail jigs behind your planer boards.

You might want to try Dismal Creek up past the two islands. Sometimes theres a lot there though hard to get to bite.

Also Clear creek if your launching in Arley ? What boat launch you using? Can you catch bait? Have a cast net?

Excuses, excuses. You cripples are all the same ! rofl

Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!

Sorry for the late response. Computer crashed. I’ll send y’all some PMs. Thanks for all the advice! Hopefully we can work something out. It was so cold when I took out last nights that I set the plug on the rear seat. I pulled over in Jasper to get some diesel and realized I forgot to grab the plug, figured it was a goner. I did my walk around before leaving and damn if that plug wasn’t still there, frozen to the boat!

Better to be lucky than good I guess...
