I'm always goofing off with my archery stuff whether it's shooting, building arrows or something.
Both of my bows have BG Ascent Verdict single pin sights. On my slow bow (60#) I wanted to try a 3 pin head.
The head alone is $100, wasn't happening. I found a 5 pin BG Rush sight on AT for $60 and got it. Removed 2 pins and wala, a 3 pin head.
I put it on yesterday and sighted in 20, 30, 40. The 20 pins the floater, it's green and I can see it in low light better than the others.
The single pin is a more clear view but, at slower speeds the 3 pin is gapped pretty well. I'll see what I like best on that bow as the year progresses.

Very impressive. I'm going to start expanding my range this year. I have a feeling it will not be a confidence building exercise. But, I'd like to have the competence out to 50-60 prior to an Elk/Mule deer hunt in the works for 2021.

If you shoot 60-80 alot you will be surprised at your improvements in accuracy and confidence. 30-50 will be chip shots. One thing I've noticed is the smaller the target at distance, the more accurate I am. Im typically set up a tad low at distance. To me, if the animal suddenly drops to move, im still in the bread basket.

Good to know. I probably will move to a 3 pin set up (1 right now because I tore my hail mary pin off on some brush). Right now I have a single pin dead on at 30. If I shoot at 15 or under I just aim 2 inches low. If I'm shooting at 40 I aim 2-3 inches high. What pin distance set up would you recommend?

My arrows are stock length (32 inches) 300 grain and I shoot 100 grain 3-blade muzzy. Pull is 82# So, will they start dropping pretty quick past 50? IDK cause I've never shot farther than 50. And haven't done that with this arrow set-up.

It's all preference. Both my bows have Black Gold Ascent Verdicts. My 70# bow is a single pin that I usually keep on 30 unless I'm in thick stuff. 0-40 or so and I don't have to adjust to comfortably shoot. If the elk is chill, I'll range and adjust.
The bow I just put the 3 pin head on (removed single pin) is a 61# bow. Just trying to see if I want a single pin or 3 pin on it. The 61# bow is slower so, a little more pin gap with 3 pins so it's not a cluttered sight picture. I'll shoot for a while and decide.

Pulling 80# I'd go Black Gold Ascent Verdict single pin. You gotta be shooting pretty flat out near 50 I would think. The fun of the slider is slinging them 70-100yds for practice. Never know when ya need a 2nd hole. I popped my bull this year with an extra arrow since I could

thanks for the info. I'll have to check into those sights. Just having a level I would think could help a ton on my form while practicing. I've got a buddy that went to a long range shooting school and he is sold on how much the level has helped him with his form shooting a rifle. I would think it would really help with a bow.

The level does help especially at long range. If you’re canting your bow to one side it will really shows up past 40 or so.

Years ago my buddy I was shooting with said wow your bow is really leaning to the side. I didn’t realize it because I only practiced out to about 40 yards. Now most of my practice is 40 + which like Kodiak said makes the normal range hunting shots a piece of cake.

I look at my level now on every practice shot so that I know what level feels like. When it’s time to stick one I may not look at the level but I know where it should be.

Using a side/back bar will help with the canting also if you’re having a lot of trouble getting level.

I do the same set up with my bow- in that I made a single pin that ran horizontal and not vertical. I never understood why someone would want to cover the fall of the arrows path with a bar. To be as accurate as you can be you need to watch the arrow hit it’s mark and follow through. It might just be me, but the vertical single pins which is all of them mess with me to no end.

Vertical pin doesn't bother me at all. I've been shooting them a few years. The 3 pins gapped enough that I may keep it. If not, I'll add back 2 pins and sell a 5 pin head lol

The sight pics not bad with just the 3 pins.
Just gotta decide later on which pin to use as the floater. Top pins winning so far

I do a lot of western hunting and practicing long range (60-90) definitely helps when hunting back home, even though shot opportunities are never that far. It can help your confidence with a whitetail at 45 without a doubt. I also shoot a black gold ascent verdict in 3 pin. Worth every penny.

Well, I've played a little with it between rainy days. Pins 20, 30, 40. If I want to shoot really far I just do simple math and use the 40 pin as the floater.
Shot to 80 last nite a few times with it and had no issues.
Being it's on what I call my slo-bow, I think it's gonna be a keeper.

Got a few more shots off. So far, using the top pin as the floater is winning 60/40. I like the animal above the pin vs having other pins cover part of target. Still may go back to single pin as well. 7 months to decide lol

I’ve tried and tried to go back to a multi-pin. Once you get use to that open sight picture of the single pin it’s hard to go back. No complaints with the single pin but I’m a tinkerer as well and can never leave good enough alone.

Lol, im constantly messing with something. The 3 pin gap actually is not bad at all. If I keep it on, ill have specific places picked to hunt with it. It's on my backup bow and I know exactly how to mount mt single pin without worrying about sighting it in
