For you gentlemen that specifically target Specks in the MS Delta, how many decoys do you generally use?

Generally 8-12 but some of the best speck hunters I know use 5 or less at all times.

3-4 late season. Never used more then a duzen throughout the season, but we never hunted the same fields more then 2 days. If the specks are using the field, put the decoys out and let them do there thing. Lite calling always worked best.

It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

Every situation is different...it all depends on YOUR situation and calling ability.
I'm gonna give you my situation last 2 days.
I hunt the same 350 acre field every single hunt...so that's not comparable to Marsmud AT ALL! But he is 100% correct in his scenario.
Our birds have hit their late season pattern now and will use our field sparingly due to having eaten all the corn left but we have wheat as a cover and it comes back some on each rain. The henbit weed has started to sprout really well and they are predominantly feeding on it. There are 3 groups of birds numbering 3-5,000 within 3 miles of me. They move about 3x each day and know exactly where they are going when they pick up.
We had out 40 fullbodies the first day. We got our geese for 4.
Yesterday they didn't even move for the morning feed. So we had a little wind and we did 24 FB and a dozen headless socks in the PM. Got our geese again.
if the geese aren't using your field you need as much pulling power as you can muster with a combo of decoys and calling.
And if you are really serious and try to duck hunt at the same time, it may be tough. They recognize SWD's and regular duck decoys from afar and swing wide.
Once you get them working with a yodel that's good but we finish and kill most of ours with ground/feeding call/noise with 3 calls running.
I know that's a little more than you asked....one more thing, IF YOU AIN'T HID YOU AIN'T HUNTIN'!

And set them in family group with space between them like they are relaxed and feel safe.

Thank for the replies. There are a few Specks using the rice field we duck hunt but, like JayHook mentioned, they seem to be weary of our duck spread.

If they see a spinner then they are gone. We use 7 decoys for em. Fully flocked full bodies. Them things decoys nicely.

It’s late season they are scared to death of open water ( buffalo’d holes in rice). Went for the first time this year yesterday and managed to kill a couple but I had to get away from the blind. 5 decoys used. Put your decoys facing into the wind. The lead decoy should have his head up and the last one also

Kwakman calls makes good specklebelly calls. They had a contest several years ago to name a call and I won grin
I got a free call in Bama colors. Its called the Doomsday and it works really well. I dont use speck seeks, I use regular western decoys and shoot them on the fly. They come check when I hit that call
