Picked up a Savage High Country in 6.5PRC. Man this thing is sexy. Fluted bolt and barrel and a muzzle break that looks like it came off a Howitzer. When you pull the trigger it goes BOOM and there is no felt recoil. I got it sighted in with the Hornady 143 grain. I think I might try to find the Nosler 120 grain and see how it does. Now to take the muzzle break off and shoot it with the thread protector to see how loud it is. Anybody else picked up one of these rifles. I have a Hawke Endurance 3-12x56 30mm tube on it now. I am thinking of getting a Leupold VX 5HD 3-15x56 with the fire dot and CDS. For now the Hawke works just fine. What is the recoil like on that gun. Been looking at them and can't decide between a 6.5 PRC or a 7mm-08.

There is no recoil at all and the muzzle break is not bad on the ears. That sounds good. Without a brake that round should have a little more recoil than a 7mm-08. I was figuring with a brake maybe similar to a .243 from what you said sounds like it may be that or a little less. That round should be a deer killing machine with great penetration. At 300 yards it is faster with more energy than a .270 with better SD.

Shot a high country in 300 win mag last weekend. Little recoil. Muzzle blast wasn't bad.
Felt tight, smooth bolt, trigger was crisp.
Only complaint is that it's a bit heavier than I typically like my rifles, but seems great otherwise.

My buddy has one in the 300 and he finally got to shoot it the other day and it grouped very well. And i agree with the weight, i wanted the Hells Canyon or the Savage in 6.5 and i was leaning towards the Savage, but i have enough heavy guns lol........

I prefer a heavy gun in the 8-9 lb range They have less felt recoil, they are easier to hold steady when shooting. Unless I am going to be carrying it for miles days on end I don't see the benefit of a 6lb gun.

Just put the deposit down on a custom PRC - Defiance action, 22” Proof carbon barrel, Triggertech in a McMillan. Can’t wait to try it out when she’s done.
