I got to put my pup on 2 tracks this weekend. The first track was supposed to be a buck that went 80 yards down a field edge then into the woods. Turned dog loose she hit blood went 42 yds down the edge of the field and stopped. I shined the light and the deer was laying there with the dog. Never made it out of field like hunter suggested. Next track was last night found a spot of blood sent the dog and began following blood on my tracker the dog went 75 yds then returned when she came back she had blood allover her mouth and between her eyes on her head. I said well she must have found the deer I told her to find it and she went 245 yards on the way the blood was heading so we continued on ahead while she was gone looking for the deer we thought she had found at 75 yds. Well we kept following blood and went across a road the direction the dog had gone after 150 yds the dog came back head covered in blood again. She kept trailing blood and returning and trailing and returning eventually her and the blood trail wound up going in total 740 yds in a straight line into the river where I had to call her off as the dog was swimming the river. Per the hunter the deer was hit hard but half way though the track I found bold covered corn and the blood was very watery almost. Any ideas how the dog kept getting bloody or what could have happened.

It was above her eyes all over her head not like splashed but like rubbed on above her eyes Never saw a place that was bigger than a couple baseball size places where it stopped or played down

Probably if I had to guess was wallering around in wound beds sounds like y'all we're jumping the deer The river being a tough call to make on keeping going or calling it off but most of the time on them if you keep pushing them they will bay when they get tired also you gone find ALOT of deer ain't shot where the shooter said they shot it. I told the shooter we were jumping the deer after dog came back the first time then left again and went 200+ yards. However there were no big places of blood and no blood on the dog other than her mouth and right between her eyes. Not like she was rolling in it. She has never been on a track like that so I have no idea if she would bay one chase one or how I would know what she was doing in the dark like that. We trailed blood and the places the deer stopped or laid down there was some blood but it was not like 3 feet of blood, it was like 8-12 inches of watery blood

I'm guessing your working off leash which is fine and I hope if you are your using a gps collar. Either teach her to bark when she bays or the gps collar will show the dog as treed when she stops moving for a lil bit Yes I am. It never showed treed. It showed her sitting one time but that was it

You sure your dog didn’t have a cut in the mouth/tongue?

You sure your dog didn’t have a cut in the mouth/tongue? That was my first thought but she came back 5 times total, time 1 and time 5 with blood on her head only time 1 with it in mouth and head the other 3 in between times she was clean. I was so confused and still am. Got to get her on some more day time tracks so I can watch her and see what she is doing
