I was just wondering what part of the season do you normally start? I know some people just enjoy calling animals in. What's your take on deer calling.

What mbrock said....ive tried a long time ago...ive found that young bucks are curious and may come to some noise but it's nothing more than that in my experience here...

Sit down, shut up, sit still
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

Call em up with an empty corn sack. And a feeder timer.

I used every call known to man like the ones they used on hunting shows in the Midwest when I first got into hunting. Never did call in anything. I have them all put up in a Wal-Mart bag somewhere around the house now.

In AL never.
I will occasionally grunt to turn a deer or get a better look. I can say I have never, not once called in a decent buck with rattling in AL. Bleat can has called in some small bucks. I just hunt. Leave calling to others.
I won’t hesitate to call in the Midwest. You ain't holding yer mouth right. I've rattled in a bunch and killed 3 dandies rattling. Well one I didn't rattle , the two bucks fighting in the thicket rattled him in for me. I do pick my times to do it, I like pre-breeding and on a cold, crisp, still morning when the sound really carries. I'll tickle them and clang them a little lightly just in case one is close, wait bout 5 mins and then go full blown death fight mode. Don't be afraid to get rough with the horns and cause a ruckus. If there's a fair number of 3YO and older bucks in the area, there's competition for breeding , they WILL come to rattling in Alabama..

I never blind call If I see a buck or hear one grunt I will grunt at them or bleat during the rut I've turned and killed several bucks doing this but have never had any success rattling
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

I won't go into the woods without a grunt call, and usually not without my rattling antlers. I've grunted up dozens and dozens of bucks from bow season to the end. Same for rattling. I change the tempo from start to finish, but you can rattle in bucks at any time of the season IF ya know how. Like 2Dogs, Have several bucks on the wall I rattled up.
I NEVER let a buck walk by out of range without at least grunting or rattling at him. Sometimes they keep walking and sometimes the turn and come in. I have rattled a buck in that was chasing a doe 300 yards away, took him an hour to come check it out...but he rode home with me.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
