shooting house with thunder to the south getting closer. I'm thinking this might be a bad idea. Might be about to receive the Darwin award. Now its raining hard and I'm trapped. Thinking I might bail, get wet and fight another day. Lightning wasn't in the picture when I left the house

I would stay put. But what do I know?

I'm still here. I've had 2 very close lightning experiences and always figured the next one would be the last one. I might be the only creature foolish enough to be out in it. Boredom from sitting around the house clouded my judgement. It would have to be super wallhanger to fool with one in this crap

So far, so good. Sounds like lightning round 2 is coming. At least they could say well, he was doing what he loved to do. Going that route, I'd prefer a heart attack brought on by some sex crazed wild young thing. Ain't seen diddly yet

Lot of rain fell here this evening. I baked cookies and drank Budweiser.

No napping when you're waiting on the grim reaper. I have more than a healthy respect for lightning since my last close call several years ago. Anywhere near makes me pucker.

Preach, Brother! Three times it has hit close enough for the ground to shock me. That close, the light and the noise are simultaneous. It will get your attention. grin

I once found myself cowering under a bucket truck, when we dropped a line across a 44kv buss in a substation.
That's an experience you'll never forget. πŸ˜†

Last time it was so close I felt it and heard an electrical arcing sound. It freaked me out. I truly believe if I ever get any closer than that, the party's over. Changed the way I look at an electrical storm, don't need to get closer than I've already been

You're more likely to get killed on the ride back home
than to be struck by lightning.

I’ve had lightning strike within 200 yards of me on 4 different occasions. In a really bad electrical storm I put a helmet on and hide in the closet 😁

Yeah but aren't there always more "at risk" groups when it comes to those statistics? Like with Grizzly bears, your more likely to get struck by lightning than be attacked by a grizzly, but if you're always out in the Alaskan wilderness, you would be an at risk group.

I would think being around metal structures on a field would make you at risk for lightning grin

We grew up in a neighborhood in montgomery named Regency park. Evertime a thunderstorm filled through, lightning would hit the power transformer in our backyard. It was exciting for a 6 year old to see.

wish I would have taken a picture of a shoot house that lightning hit last year. Hit the roof and went down to ground and blew up one of the 4x4 post holding up the house. Blew out one side of the house.

In our previous house we built we had 3 strikes inside 200 yards. We had a small creek in the backyard and there was a very high concentration if iron in the soil. Creek would almost turn orange. My grandfather was out there with me, right after we built house, and said we would have issues with lightning. He spent 40 years with APCO as a lineman and said there were certain spots that had lightning strikes year after year and the only similarity in those spots was a high iron content. The first strike hit the road while I was standing on a wet garage floor which resulted in a mild shock. The second strike hit a pine tree 50’ from the house while I was taking a leak, luckily my sphincter muscles work just fine πŸ˜€. The third strike did the most damage. Storm was rolling through and I opened front door to check the gutters. 5 seconds after I open the door lightning hits the front yard and immediately EVERY smoke detector in the house goes crazy. Somehow the lightning fried everyone of them and several other electrical items. I’m guessing it came in through the ground. Glad we sold that house

I can remember working on fences with my granddad's and if the heard thunder both of them would say" Load up we're done. "

I had a recurring dream all last summer of being struck by lightning while checking cotton. So much and real to the point if I heard thunder and was a mile or 2 from my truck checking if just stop and head back to the truck. Several days I’d sit at a gate and wait til thunder was all gone to get out and open or shut it. Now it’s all gone and back to normal. But it was an every night dream for months
