What did I buy? All I know is it's a mauser 98 with a flip safety on the right. Nice wood and is in great shape. Little heavy and the barrel seems thicker and its 24 inches. It's a 30-06 and that's the reason I bought it. I've been without a 30-06 for about 2 years now and when I seen this I figured if nothing else it would be kool to have. Are these pretty solid rifles? Can I expect good enough accuracy for deer? I know I'll find out when I shoot it but just curious. Tia
Update. After searching the web this isnt the military looking rifle. I have yet to find a pic with the same style safety either. No iron sight, no cheek rest and no markings other than the serial and the barrel says 30-06 and the letter M on the right hand side with what appears to be an arrow in a square around the M and almost touching where it began on the right of the letter. I can send pics by phone if someone has knowledge of this and can help me learn a little bit about what I have

Thanks for googling that but that's not the rifle I have. That's wikipidia definition. This is why I came here for knowledge because it's not a 24 to 42 production gun. I'll figure out how to post pic when I get some more free time but between the google searches and Google's images I cant find a rifle that resembles this one. It could be a rebarreled and restocked rifles but it doesnt have the eagle or whatever symbol under the scope mount so I'm at a loss. I'll get it to the range asap but with running a business i never know when I'll get some free time. And to honest its driving me crazy during the rut lol

A client of mine came to me with something similar a month or so ago. He had done some trading and received this odd rifle as part of the trade. It was supposed to be a 30-06. Had a discernibly Mauser-ish action and very few markings. It was very similar to the rifle I posted the wiki for, based on the information you gave. But told him take it to a gunsmith and have them look at it. It wasn’t chambered in any of the listed chamberings or 30-06 and appeared to have been someone’s home-gunsmithing project. I think he tossed it.
