Picked up a .50 cal stainless encore with a 4x12x40 BDC Nikon.
I have never shot a muzzleloader before. What are y’all shooting?
It is a 209 primer, but other than that I have no clue what to get to sight it in.

I use the pyrodex pellets in mine with a Hornady sst bullet it does it's job
I tried the white hot pellets and mine didn't like them accuracy wise
The encore is a great platform and can be a track driver or my center-fire barrels are

Hornady SST 250 grain bullets, 110 grains of Blackhorn 209, Winchester 209 shot shell primers.

That's the recipe I cook with in mine.

Deadly accurate.

No to high jack but is the blackhorn a better choice of powder than the pellets?

Please for the love of God, When you settle on the load you like, load it up and take a marker and drop your ramrod in the barrel and mark a line flush with the barrel for reference, a guy I know got his double loaded accidently and shot it... eek it split like a banana and blew apart, its a wonder it didn't kill him, lucky for him he only lost a few fingers.... frown

I also shoot 110 g of the Blackhorn 209 with Winchester primers, but I shoot the Barnes bullets. Very accurate combo in my gun and will knock a big ole hole in a deer.

In my opinion, there is not a better propellant on the market than Blackhorn 209. thumbup

Easy to use, multiple shots without barrel swabbing, not as highly corrosive as other propellants, and super easy to clean up.

After I found Blackhorn 209 I have never looked back.

I like using the 3 pellets and the 250 T/C bullets in my Encore. Very accurate and easy to reload quickly.

I agree 1,000%. You can’t beat BH209. For me, I shoot 120 grains BH209, with a 250 grain T/C Shockwave bullet. Very deadly combination in my Encore.

I like the BH 209 also but have found it to be subject to hangfire so what I do to combat this is open my flash hole up to .030 and add 20 grains of 777 to 90 grains of BH209 pushing a 300 grain Harvester Scorpion
I get very good accuracy with this combo

I also shoot a .50 cal Encore. I load 100 BH209 with a 290 grain Barnes T-EZ bullet. Try to load and swab the same way every time, to improve consistency in your shot groupings. I would go ahead and start out shooting BH209, it seems that most end up there in the end sooner or later. I've never had a hangfire that I recall, been shooting it for about 10 years. Good luck to you.
