Nap spitfires. And as jb said shot placement is critical

I hunt from ground with compound that doesn't shoot 300fps with muzzy 100gr and killed plenty...all less than 100yrd tracking most under 50..i have lost 2 in a stand shooting straight down...ive dropped a couple with that shot but won't do it again after losing the last one..but I don't climb much more anyway

Using the bolts that came with the crossbow package. What bolt do yall recommend and would a heavier grain broadhead or some of those rage expandable ones that say crossbow on it? Always used those muzzy with my compound with great success but went to crossbow for ground hunting as I just use natural cover. Thanks for all the input!!! Josh, I bought a cheap crossbow package for my boys to shoot this year. I use the same 2 blade rage 125s I bow hunt with. You have to get the red shock collars for them. My 8 year old killed his first deer with them on opening day. The broad head could not have performed any better.

You don’t have to buy the so called “crossbow” broadheads. Just the companies trying to make a extra buck. I use Slick Trick Magnums. 125 grain 4 blade. Same ones I used to use on my compound. Fly great, kill dead. As a compound shooter, I always wondered what would be the difference.

Ive used those 100 grain Muzzy's on several bucks with the crossbow. I just recently switched to Mathews Rage Hypodermic Crossbow broadheads as I was given a pack as a gift and wanted to try them out.
They look nice, Im sure theyll do great...I didnt get to shoot one this season with it., but check them out. My friend loves them.

Shot placement has been good, shot one at 30 yards today and it barely penetrated rib cage and he ran off with my bolt sticking out of him. Hunting from the ground if that makes any difference Is this the only deer you have shot with your xbox? Maybe a fluke. 390 fps should be slinging them bolts. I shoot a old Horton Vision at 309 fps and get pass thru regularly with 18" bolts and 100 grain NAP spitfires. At 390 fps I would be using a heavier bolt that shoots well. I would be looking hard at Easton Full Metal Jacket and NAP spitfires at 125 gain.
