We were talking in the office at work today about CCP's and he said his brother got arrested for having an AL CCP, carrying on his self in a vehicle, and not having it in a locked console (seperate compartment), while in a vehicle. I said what? That sounds like out-of-staters in SC, but not AL. Hope to hell I ain't missing something here on the CC rules in a vehicle.

What's the point of a CCP if you can't carry it on your person in a vehicle? The only possible exception I can think of is the Natchez Trace road in NW Bama. They're a federal park and have some weird rules.

What he described isn’t a crime. Either he isn’t telling the whole story, or he doesn’t know the truth.

I can probably guess their skin color with a 90% accuracy rate. DA where I work is constantly telling me BS like this, best one so far was if you have a CCW it is against the law to open carry you have to have it concealed from that point on, or that you can't have a round in the chamber, and his cousin has a Glock and they are designed to be shot sideways or it will jam up among many other words of wisdom

Sounds more like he didn't actually have a CCW permit. If you don't have it, transporting it in the manner described would be the legal way to do it.

There’s way more to that story than what the perp told his family and friends.

Was he arrested or convicted. Arrested, I don’t doubt at all with the lack of training and incompetence now days

Montevello PD arrested one of my guys last summer for basically the same thing after a very illegal search of his truck for having a tail light out before finding his pistol , black powder revolver that he had been at a friend’s house shooting, in a holster on his hip.

His ccp had been expired for 3 years just because he forgot to renew

Case was dismissed at his first court appearance based on the fact HE DIDNT even need a permit for a black powder pistol and the judge reminded him he really ought to keep his permit current and a dependable sidearm in his holster.

I forgot for a year. When you get one good for a couple years, time flies when you have alot on your plate.

I'm confused with the original post. Was he arrested in South Carolina? If so, I don't think SC reciprocates with Alabama and he probably could have been rightfully arrested.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

Bham popo had my youngest brother cuffed on the ground, fixing to transport him to jail for having a unloaded , cased, shotgun in his back seat of his SUV, driving down Sicard Hollow Road. You most certainly can be arrested for shitt that ain't against the law.

I had an autauga county deputy pull me over one morning for "looking suspicious" while driving down a dirt road and he all but drug me and my buddy out of my hunting truck because he saw our turkey guns laying in the seat between us (single cab truck). Then proceeded to tell us that they were loaded and it was illegal to carry a loaded long gun in your truck. All I told him was he better call a superior and double check his laws because there wasn't one. We went round and round for about ten mins and finally I just asked him if he was arresting us, he said no, so I told my buddy to get back in the truck and we were leaving. And we did.

Lived in N.Ga. for a few years during some really hard times. Had just moved there and was trying to
do some hunting in the Chattahooche NF. I left the barn I was renting one afternoon and got in behind
some NF trucks hauling a dozer, some pickups, and law enforcement. Lo and behold they turned up the
forestry road I was going up. I pulled over at my spot and they kept going up the mtn. As I was getting
my stuff together this Forestry LE guy comes flying back down the road where I was parked. Apparently
there was a fire up on the App.trail and he was thinking I must have set it the day before and was
coming to watch the festivities. I mean he was SURE of it. Checked my DL, and asked for a address
cause my GA DL had a PO Box listed. Told him I didn't have an address, I lived in a barn. I didn't have a
cell phone back then and I hadn't learned my land line # yet. That really pissed him off. He searched
my truck with my consent. Stood there with the guy for a good half an hour getting interrogated.
Closest I've ever came to being "detained". And NO, I did not set any fires. I'm just glad I backed into
my parking spot when I parked. He never checked my license plate. An Alabama license plate.
He would have had a meltdown.

The original post was confusing on that subject. If it was South Carolina, then the arrest may be legal. As DC said, they (at least the didn't) accept Alabama CCPs.

No the guy said it was in AL. SC was my first thought too. It was probably a BS story.
