I only had an hour or so, but what a great afternoon on the water. I just wanted to get my line stretched. Met a great guy at the ramp, Chuck Lang, who was coming in as I was going out. Totally unsolicited, he told me how to find the white bass and even gave me a spoon that he makes. His advice was spot on. These weren’t dinks. They were really nice quality white bass. Towards the end of the trip, I chunked that Alabama rig, was counting it down when - WHAM - something big hit it. I mean it was nice. I thought I had a big bass or stripe. Finally got it up and it was a big ol’ catfish. He ate that swimbait too. It was in back of his throat. The water was absolutely “on fire” as the sun sank behind the mountains. Got back to the ramp, struck up a conversation with a group of divers working on a project. Super cool guys. “Hey, you want a hoodie?” the main guy said. I must have looked like someone needing stuff today. First a lure, then a hoodie. My new ramp friends sure were nice to me today. Still great folks on the water in Guntersville, Alabama!

Cool beans. White bass are a blast to catch. If bass or crappie pulled that hard, we'd never land them.

Love the people I've met on the water 99.99999% of the time.

Not enough.
I got there late. I only caught 10 or 12.
The guy who told me about it said he’d caught hundreds.
They were some of the nicest white bass I’ve seen.

Them big ones are fun to catch. We were getting into the back in the summer below the dam. Me and the boy probably caught 30-40 apiece in an hour or so on a white roostertail. Have also seen some big ones schooling with largemouth and spots in a frenzy. My uncle carried some home and ate them, he said they werent all that good. Ive ate smaller white bass and liked them.. But id just about as soon get in a school of them as anything, you dont have to coax them into eating.

They are my second favorite fish. I like them almost as good as crappie.

I have kept some smaller white and yellow bass(less than 1lb) and cooked them with crappie, I dont know that I could tell the difference. The water was pretty warm when my uncle kept the big ones, that might have been part of it.
