This IS NOT about me but a crazy guy at work. Can debt follow you to a foreign country? (Mortgage/foreclosure, credit cards, child support). As crazy as it sounds, we have pretty good reason to believe a coworker is about to skip country and not come back. Only thing we can figure is to get out from under his child support and debt.

I know a big homebuilder that skipped to Costa Rica when everything went south mid 2000’s.
Just like his Daddy did before him as I understand it.

I wouldnt try to talk him into staying. I keep my distance. I have a strict policy that I will only talk to him in case of an immediate threat from a Tsunami, volcano eruption, or meteors plummeting to the earth.

the debt might not follow him but the SSN will. Why is that? If the SSN is a United States thing, why would it follow him? Also, I forgot to mention, he is actually from the country we figure he is skipping out too. We actually know he is going. The bet is whether or not he will come back.

Skipping the country is a bad idea. Faking his own death is the way to go here If hes the type fella with so much child support debt hes fixin to go to prison for it and he would rather leave the country where his kids live than do anything to help support them, I would say faking death is not going quite far enough. This world could easily do without him. Maybe his kids could draw some social security then.

The debt never goes away, it's just that the US contract that created it isn't enforceable outside the US. He could still lose any assets he leaves behind (property in his name, etc.) but that's about it.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson
