Suppose you have an elderly couple for neighbors, that are on the HOA board and they harass you about every single mallarduckin infraction they can find all the beaverdam time! How would you deal swift certain untraceable payback? This is purely hypothetical and I hope I never find myself in this situation. I'll give you good people a moment while I look for my blood pressure meds. I assert again, purely hypothetical situation.
Is file a suit against them for discrimination and torshious interference with your right to enjoy your house without being harassed. You gotta let them know you’re not just going to lay down and start obeying the rules all of a sudden. You mean business
Let’s hear about the infractions then we can make a more clear assessment. They gripe about my utility trailer you can’t see from the road. I’ve learned that sending multiple certified letters with 10 days to respond slows them down and aggravated them. I told them I was flying in several German engineers to access the problem and I would have a report for them in 180 days. They never responded. Also helps to mention in your letters other people violating the rules that you have seen and ask for copies of the letter they received.
Thank God I'll never know the feeling of dealing with a HOA! Or neighbors.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
MOVE....I'll never live in an HOA area again..EVER

This past summer my 72yo veteran neighbor pulled an Updyke. Neighbors tree roots in water pipes and wouldn't cut tree. He drilled holes in tree and added a liquid. He passed in September. Tree left in October lol

1. Utility trailer-guilty- as described, but, only them walking their dogs see it. Any passing car would have to look back to see it. 2. Plastic totes or bags on porch- they have flipping decorations in them, they are literally there only when we are putting up or taking down. I shucks you not, leave them out and go to store, 2 days later, letter in the mail. 3. Cars parking on street- they ain't even my damn cars! Not on my property! Got 3 of those letters 4. Today- I been bugging the shucks out of City to cut a damn tree down that was sinking and leaning towards the house because the storm water drain is blown out. City storm water people finally came and said "oh shucks yep that's on us" Tree cutter came today, guess who rolls up demanding a damn tree removal permit! Tries to shut em down for 20min. I would have to move. I would probably have some fun with it though. Like whats not under their control? Shrubery ? Fencing? its color? Radio playing in driveway? Bright night lighting on their side of the house? Xmas lights year round? Fake gaudy plastic flowers in the flower beds? I hear tale that pramitol pellets work good on lawns and shrubs. I had a couple of buddies who would mess with their other buddies and every fall they would seed their lawn with winter rye grass and fertilize it. They never fessed up to that one.

Yea, follow the rules. BUT, should you decide to address the situation you have to know if want to do it within the law or outside of the law. Within the law, there are several means to have them arrested. LOTS of laws that can be used.
In all seriousness you moved there so you can’t complain too much. I would show up at the next HOA meeting and call them out on the things that were out of your control. I will say being nice willl probably get you further than being an assgoblin
People like that give HOA groups a bad name. Sadly too many people love power and will flex through the HOA. I'd tell them to pound sand on the things where they are wrong. Hide your trailer better.

Well that escalated quickly. We can never be neighbors.
Sow rygrass in their front yard that spells ASSHOLES in big letters. Then file a complaint with the HOA about vulgar lawn displays.

Make sure that HOA is legitimate if you start getting fines for this. HOA could have been started for the original subdivision then your house may have been an afterthought and though being in the same Neighborhood, not technically in the “jurisdiction” of the original HOA. If it’s just letters, roll your reply letters up real tight and mail it back that way so they can shove it up their ass easier. If I was as miserable as some of the power hungry SOBs that run HOAs are I’d probably suck start a pistol.

Ok....so the carrot may have been a little much for you simple minded folks, but I am an idea man! One more thought is that these little drones are pretty cheap nowl. You could soak a small sponge with skunk scent and fly it right down their chimney. Chances are it gets stuck in the flume and they have no idea why the house smells like that. Good luck!
BTW.....if you do the carrot trick, make sure you are always eating a carrot when they see you. Mind fking 101.

It was just discovered a HOA Managment company in Jackson, Mississippi area has embezzled millions of dollars from several high end neighborhoods. You might want to show up and demand an audit, that may shut them up. Or, just squirt them with the water hose every time they set foot on your property.

Hey Big Bore, I know the HOA Nazis in your high falutin neighborhood must love having you around...
Could be that they are harassing others as well and you could get together and kick them off the board. My cousin's neighborhood was doing this this past Sunday. Guy I worked with lived in Mtn Brook and parked his AT&T (or Bellsouth I don't remember year) company truck in his driveway. HOA complained and made him quit parking it there. He paid someone to paint a picture of his company truck on his garage door so it looked like it was there. People with money can come up with ideas too!
We had this problem back some years ago and it wasn't a matter of not following the HOA rules it was an older gentleman that we called the mayor. He would go around the neighborhood trying to find things to complain about. We'd get a letter from the HOA expressing his concerns as would everyone
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be
I had a neighbor of mine call the HOA, to have them call me about a tree that was dead in my back yard and leaning over his fence. Backstory. I met the neighbor right after we bought the house just after the hurricane. The tree and his fence were damaged during that event. He told me that he was getting all of his fence replaced and I asked him to let me know when that would be and I would cut the tree up. I was not living at the house but had a contractor there working everyday so someone was there he could've informed. Was there one night and the fence was down and then replaced the next day and I never heard a single word from him. Needless to say when the HOA called me about it, I was livid. What a little whiney brat to pull something like that.

I do not wish them any physical harm. They are as deadeye described, power-trippin. They have nothing better to do and they walk their giant great Pyrenees at a snails pace down the median and have a solid 20 minutes to canvas our house for violations, then go grandstand at the HOA board meeting. Yes, every house on our street gets the same BS from them. We have been there 3 years and my wife tried to befriend them from the start. Our neighbors on the other side had warned us about how they do this to everyone on our street. She once came to our house knocking on the door with a Jack Russell telling my wife our dog got out. My wife said it took 15 minutes to convince her that this was not our dog. She tried to leave the dog with my wife, but that didn't happen. This was about 2 weeks after my wife returned 1 of her Great Pyrenees that was out roaming the neighborhood. To clarify, there are several lots between us and the HOA neighbors, audible assault is not an option lol. I LOVE the comments "MOVE" "YOU SIGNED UP FOR IT", great advice. I own 2 other homes in places that I could walk around naked in the front yard with a carrot in my ass for a month and possibly not see anyone. Currently, I live in an HOA because my 3 year old has health issues that require us to be in close proximity to his Pediatrician and urgent care facilities. As soon as we can we will be out of the HOA, I assure you.
I did read in the violation notice the utility trailer must be behind a fence, out of sight of passing cars, etc. So Sunday I plan to put 1 stand alone fence panel in front of the trailer in the driveway that technically complies with policy.
The vast majority of HOAs don't cause any problems, and keep your home value reasonable, and keep the neighbors from putting an old truck in their front yard on cinder blocks, keep their yard from becoming a forest, and keep them from putting their stepson in a trailer house in the front yard. I've personally never talked to anyone who has had any trouble with them.
i have found that if you have a face to face with people like this they will let up. sounds like the are very passive-aggressive. kill them with kindness, explain you're doing all you can and want to be a good neighbor, and follow the rules. life will be easier for you.

If everyone on your street feels the same as you then read the bylaws and get them removed from the board. I assume the board is elected by members or the ones I have lived in were. This is the best response as if they are power tripping and others share your view of overreach then vote them off.

Maybe so but i have no plans of ever moving so I want my home value as low as possible for tax purposes. Keep the closest neighbor at least 500 yards away and I really don't care what the neighbor does. I ain't living under a HOA.

I definitely see the value. Those neighbors who knit pick would drive me nuts. I'm not crazy about having neighbors that close either.

Sounds like being HOA president may be worse than being hunting club president.
I did it for two years. I filed many a lien on homes. When they got ready to sell, they had to settle up with the HOA. It was all over non payment of dues. We had very few restrictions but the dues were used to maintain the clubhouse, pool, and park. The worse part was being called about pool violations. Seems I never got a weekend off without being called to come over to the pool and enforce the rules.

just hide your trailer better and explain to them that the totes were only out for a couple of hours while decorating and assure them they won't be left overnight. Explain the cars were not yours and on public property, and the tree was the city's business...and that both of those cases are out of your control.
seems pretty cut & dry....why make this harder than it needs to be?

Exactly..........the good stuff they do doesn't make Facebook, or message board posts, or Fox News Headlines....
"HOA Forces Veteran to Remove American Flag" will get 1,000,000 clicks on Fox News. "HOA Forces Homeowner to Move Broken-Down Car to Backyard and Cut His Grass" will get, maybe, 10 clicks.
I would be happy to deal with having to keep my utility trailer hidden and specific rule about what type of garden flag I could have in the front flowerbed if it meant the guy across the street couldn't keep his food truck parked in his driveway, or the guy 4 houses down didn't have a camper set up in his front yard, complete with power/water run to it and the slide-out extended (and been that way for a year), or the house up the street that literally has siding and trim dangling off the side of the house.

I had an idiot neighbor who would call the police mid afternoon when my kids were playing basketball in my driveway. All kinds of stuff like that.
It didnt help that he was a huge democrat\environmentalist. He was the first person I knew who had an electric car. He even used a manual reel mower to cut his grass.
So.... being the super nice guy that I am I helped him out. About every 4-5 weeks right before a rain, when he would leave for work, I would put out 150# of 33-0-0 on his half acre yard. My across the street neighbor (who also hated him) and I would sit in my front yard and watch that poor bastard mow the grass. It was awesome. I dont think he ever figured it out. I did that for about 3 years until they guy got transferred and moved away.
I served on the board and was treasurer of my HOA for 4 years. I only planned on doing it for 1 year, but stayed on longer just to prevent the 2 or 3 azzholes on the board who always wanted to nose into their neighbors business and push the rules beyond what was allowed by covenant. It's these types that are the problem, and they are just like a bully in that you just have to stand up to them.
Do the rygrass thing in the middle of the night and make sure the letters are BIG. 👍👍

Nice! some of my dads sales crew use to do this to some of the salesman when they would catch them out of town for pure meanness.
Would also plant turnips in their yard in the fall as well.

MM84, I'm in the same boat you're in with having to be near a medical facility because of a very sick child. We live in a small neighborhood, 5 houses on a deadend street. The neighbor straight in front of us never cuts his grass, his son is an IDOT, and everybody there drives Harley's ALL THE TIME/DAY and NIGHT. When they're not driving them up and down their driveway they're working on them. The son plays gangsta rap a lot, loudly. They're lilly whilte. When I'm at home I call him and tell him to turn it down or turn it off. He bluffed me, I called it. We recently found some acreage 5 minutes away that leaves us just as close to medical facilities. We will be moving once our house is built. No neighbors. Can't wait.
You are correct AU338MAG! I have gotten quite a few letters in my day. Only difference in my “high end” neighborhood is that I actually peel the carrot before stuffing it where the sun don’t shine!
Why not imazypyr, soaked into ground corn cobs then encapsulated in a clay ball ? Once the clay breaks down in the rain the imazapyr can work on the shrubs/trees. Not a fast solution, but...

Peeled carrot has gotta be a little more comfortable...
We live in an HOA neighborhood but everyone is real laid back and we never have any problems. Kind of hard to enforce the rules though when one of the developers accesses his place from inside the neighborhood, and has a gravel drive way, which is against the rules technically. Now, when I lived in Helena, we had some straight up HOA Nazis that once sent me a letter because I had my boat parked in the driveway, on a Saturday, hooked to my truck, for about an hour while I replaced the lights and changed the foot oil.
