That is a cool story.

Bayed up...Hogwild helped me track down one that had been ear tagged and killed where I used to hunt in Leroy. He had made about 5 river miles.

When I was a kid two of the places we hunted a lot were about 45 miles apart, one on the mountain and one east of the mountain, a big old spotted sow with no left ear was seen a few times at both places before she was killed.

In Germany, I know they taught us that a herd could/would roam up to 30 KM in a single night. As stated elsewhere in this forum - Russian variety, not the ferals here.

Neat in the information received, but

Just think.....

If the hog had been killed 600 miles ago when tagged........

there would be a lot less hogs. wink

Maybe he was neutered, but he doesn't appear to be in the picture.

God Bless,
David B.

Not really since he was a boar. If it was a sow it would have made a difference but since it’s a boar more than likely any sows he bred would have been bred by a different boar anyway.

There are a lot of variables involved here. It mostly depends of food sources and the location of other pigs as to how far they travel. I have been seeing this same boar on out lease for the last 3 years. Most of the time during bow season and out of range. My neighbor caught him in a trap and didn't have his gun on him. When he came back he had busted the side out on the trap and was gone. I have seen the same sounder of hogs several times this year have taken a few out of it but they dont go far. I would bet this is an exception and not the norm. My 02.
