Wood quality can’t be overlooked when using insulated pipe. I learned the hard way from running this Buck last 12 years.

So far so good... heating the cabin with nothing but wood. It's currently 24 outside and it's a toasty 73 inside. It's been at least 70 inside all day. Mrs. Irish and I have been working from home all say and it has been nice.

The upstairs bedrooms are cooler, which is what I want. I like it to be cool when I sleep, but since the floor joist and sub-flooring are exposed to the floor below at least the floor is warm, which is nice.

We're watching Life Below Zero, so it even feels colder outside, but Mrs. Irish has a pot of her homemade vegetable soup on the propane stove so I'll be warm inside soon...

built my first fire of the season last night - the old boy performed perfectly ... only had to throw 1 stick on at 1am to keep it going thru the night ... woke up to 68 degs, 18 degs registered on my Jeep on the way in

it's a good one ... i've learned to build really hot, smaller fires (usually 3 logs) & get it piping *ss hot vs loading it up & idling it ... once you have a good coal bed, it's off to the races to maintain the temps inside my home ... i only run this when it's cold like this; 40's-60's i just let my heat pump run ...

there are times when i wish i had glass doors so i could see the fire ... but the main purpose of this thing is to heat the house; that's romantic enough for me LOL

That's a really cool old stove. I'm still learning how to use mine the most efficiently. The one thing I have learned is in the mornings when it's cold is to get it going again with some maple splits and it gets things heated up pretty quick and then to keep a good steady heat later on add in larger splits of hickory and oak.

yup - you'll learn what your heater likes to do over time ... at night before going to bed, i like to put a non-split round log on top to "hold" the fire for a while during the night ... that or a pretty big split chunk ... all i burn is oak in mine btw; you can Google BTU's for each wood type & learn a lot about what'll produce the most heat inside your stove ...

Hickory also pops and spits the most, therefore I do not burn it in my open fireplace. I wish I had a wood stove, my next house will.

last night, i built another fire in the Ashley; took about an hour or so to get to this type of coal bed, but this is what i shoot for quickly ... took the house from 65 deg to 74 degs in no time (blower wide open) ...
