If you’re shooting planted birds I’d say some decent 6’s will be fine. Last hunt I was on in South Dakota I was shooting Fiocchi Golden Pheasant in #5’s and they were worth every penny. I agree Brian, 12, should do just fine with some 1/4 #6, but with a 20 in a 1oz I’d want #5s.

More quality components for one, Winchester Super X will work but the Federals and Fiocchis really do shoot well.

You can only kill 3 a day....so you're not going to shoot many shells. I'm going to S. Dakota the week of Thanksgiving.....We all shoot 3" Magnum #4's or #5's. Yeah. With that limit, you could shoot TSS

Kansas....Nebraska...are spotty. S. Dakota is a lot more dependable.
+1 That’s been my experience as well.

Not true at all.....I've been to Nebraska twice this year - all public land- and got my limit of pheasants on most days. We also shot quite a few chickens and quail. It all depends on research and pressure. Of those 3 states, Nebraska probably gets the least amount of pressure, which is why I continue to go back there!
