While watching that doe eat hay this evening, I watched over 150 woodys go to roost in front of my house. Beavers have backed up probably 1.5 acres across from my house and woodys have always roosted there, but a pile of em was there tonight. Them jokers whistle and squeal all night long too. I hunt a 8 acre lake about a 1/4 mile from it, but I don’t ever mess with em where they roost. Maybe they’ll stick around through the season.

Good job on leaving the roost alone....our woodies down this way have been really hit hard by people shooting the roosts...we don't have near the numbers we did just a couple years ago and all these roost shooters are a big reason why. I wish legal hours for duck season would go from 30 minutes before sunrise until 12 noon. Just my opinion though.

Those are absolutely beautiful birds. Never hunted them though.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

When I was in high school in south Mississippi, a buddy of mine had a beaver pond where they roosted every evening by the hundreds. We had a couple good morning shoots, then we burnt them up one evening while they were trying to roost. No ducks ever roosted there again as far as I know. Learned a good lesson.

The problem with shooting a roost, at least on any property I've ever hunted, is that the birds don't come in until about 30 minutes AFTER sunset. Shooting at that time is illegal. We have one group across the valley from us that does it about five times a year shooting until seeing light is gone. Usually sounds like 4-5 shooters with unplugged guns. They probably shoot 100-200 times. After a few years, the flocks of 200 -300 woodies we used to see have disappeared.

Woodies are quick to adjust to pressure. I never hunt a roost in the AM or PM. Would rather set up in the upper bend of a large creek or small beaver pond and catch them dropping in. One of my favorite things to do. Can't wait for opening day.

Game warden would likely want the opportunity to make a case for shooting after legal hrs. Have yall informed GW?

late roost shooters are the easiest outlaws to catch in the world. They usually don't start until right at quitting time and shoot for 30-45 minutes, plenty of time to get to them.

and it is a daamn good way to ruin a roosting spot.

Game Warden has been after them for two years. They quit early last January, so either word got out that the GW was after them or they had killed/spooked all of the birds from the area. Used to see 200-300 early AM and late PM and last two weeks of the season last year, I maybe saw five.

If they start up again, GW will get the call.
