That would be impressive if he actually simulated a stand failure. I just thought it was funny. You're right, it was funny. They could make the same type video on throw n mow. Lol

I have the whole TETHRD setup. The ropeman 1 is the ticket on the lineman and tether. It allows you to stand or sit quick. I’m definitely getting one for my lineman’s rope

Seems like most folks treat the saddle stand as a harness and don't actually wear a harness. For those that use a saddle and don't wear a safety harness, why is that? Im sure you’re rope rescue certified like i am and that’s why you’re asking this. If you’re worried about redundancy then just attach another tether to the tree and be double tethered. When you are on rope, you are double tethered not double harnessed.

Ok....so, out of curiousity, I started checking out the Tethrd site and dang at the price....$400ish for a setup. But then I looked and they're getting $200 for the harness itself, while the rest is stuff like a platform and assorted ropes/clips/etc.
So, with that said, what is the difference in their harness and your typical Rock Climbing harness? Is it just the sewn-in "seat" material? And does that actually provide any real support/comfort?
Is there any real reason you couldn't/shouldn't use a Saddle-style setup, but with your own RC harness instead of buying their harness?

Gomer I wear a saddle at work and hang in trees for hours at a time. Heck no it is not comfortable. Tolerable yes, but im making a living doing it. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to hunt this way with all the different options of treestands. To each his own I guess.

I’ve been using a cheaper style rch this year and like jwalker said it’s tolerable but not comfortable. If you have a higher end rch you may be ok.... but from what some of the more experienced guys have told me and I even asked the owner at my local rock climbing store is that a rch is to prevent you from falling and the saddle is designed to hang from. I’m sure it’s the most comfortable thing so I’m investing in a platform from tethered as well. I’m currently using the wild edge but I’m not sold on it but it beats standing on sticks. I’ve used my rch for 5 hunts this year and it’s gotten better each time as I’m learning to make small adjustments on the go. I receive my shipping notification from tethered last night and my mantis should arrive Friday so I can give a better comparison in a week or so. I think the platform will be the biggest difference. Getting the weight equally distributed between your hips and feet is the key to comfort. I seem to see more deer in the saddle/rch as well but that could be due to the area I’ve been hunting even though I’ve hunted it before and was seeing less. I think being able to get in any tree that can support my weight and having it between me and the deer have played a factor too.

I took the plunge and ordered a mantis today. I have a lineman’s belt, and tether so I saved a little there. I will get a platform down the road I’ve got sticks and some steps for now.
My question is for y’all that have a mantis or other saddle do you use the rope man ascenders? I’ve looked on saddlehunter.com and they have mixed reviews. I have a rope man on my tether and a prusik with a prusik tender from doublesteps.com on my lineman belt. Honestly I think I like the tender better Is that the tender in your pic above? I’ve got to do something about these prusik knots lol. I think I added you as a friend on saddle hunter if that you.

Oh, and my saddle shipped today. Will be here on the 14th! That’s a heck of a lot faster than they had posted on the site. Hope they didn’t rush while making it. 😂 I ordered my mantis on the 8th and it should be here Friday. How do you like it so far?

I don't think I have a picture showing my tender. Basically its just a 3" long piece of 1" webbing that has a small carabiner on both ends. One end hooks to your linemans loop and you run the tag end of your linemans belt through the other. That way you can use one hand to pull your linemans belt tight because the carabiner slides up and pushes the prusik.

Unfortunately, that’s the only time I’ve been. It’s a new learning curve. Not just sitting in it, but as far as hanging stuff on the tree etc. It’s easy to get stuff in the way if you need to swing around the tree for a shot. The predator platform could use a 2” angled piece at the end. I wear lacrosse grange boots which are soft soled boots and the pressure on the bottom of my feet over time from the end of the platform wears on me. That my only complaint as far as being comfortable though. Here’s a pic I took the other evening when I finally got to go. Don’t show much, but thought I’d add it.

I haven’t tried any smaller trees yet as I haven’t needed to but I think I will just to try it out. Do you have any issues with the WE steps on pine or trees in general? I’m using a friends perch with one step and it’s been a pain. I can cam it over but it’s not biting the tree, I thought it may be a little loose but I haven’t been able to stand on it at ground level without it sliding off the tree.
I cant speak for the perch as I'm using a predator platform. But as for the steps themselves I haven't had any issues with them at all. On pines I tie them on and cam them over once then cam them back up, tighten, and cam down one more time to get that extra bite. That little tree in the pic was a challenge because my standoffs were almost wider than the tree. I had to get them on just right or they'd slip.
