I thought, from the sounds of things from experienced hunters, that those jokers couldn't live below about 60 degrees.

Either way nice hunt! Solo, what are the rules in Nebraska? can you hunt private land as long as its not "posted" or are you on public land? and are you solo or hunting with someone? didn't know since it looks like someone took the pic of you and the dog with the birds!

Sorry, yes Gadwalls.. Killed a couple more today as well, along with Widgeon and GW for another limit. The Greenwings showed up by the hundreds today. Again I had a hard time getting setup how I needed. This area has a huge aquifer underneath and water is everywhere. Makes getting around very difficult. I’m hunting a 4500 acre tract by myself and with the rancher. This place was built as a Pintail nesting ground 40 years ago by DU. Almost all of it is prairie grass type water. Good thing is though birds are thick! Thousands of ducks headed south today. 8 degrees this morning and super clear. Watched satellites pass by like they could be reached. . Wind was little and switched from N to W. Missed out on a massive group of mallards that landed in my dekes before shooting light. Sucks only got 1 when it was time. The rest of the morning was spent killing 1 or 2 at a time. I also want to talk about my dog Cash. It’s been miserably cold. Iced out, snowed on and beat by the wind. Again miserable AF. If your like me, your dog only sees this type of weather maybe once a year or so. He’s done awesome with some precautions along the way. First, he’s in excellent health and condition which I believe has helped. The first morning he wore his vest as we were in so much water and Sub freezing temps. He developed a slight chaffe under his front legs. I’ve addressed that and corrected the vest by trimming. He’s grown a bit since last season... Next is food. I think a quality dog food is critical, along with a bit more food than normal. Today was colder temps but less wind and I knew we wouldn’t e in so much water as the first day, so no vest. Cash did great again. I’m guess I’m saying this because of how blessed I am to have this dog and companion. He has in absolutely invaluable for this type of hunting. When the prairie grass is over your head, your not finding your birds. Ive yet to loose a bird because of him and he has made some incredible retrieves! About to do some scouting for tomorrow. The hard water is thawing out today in the sun and warmer temps, gotta switch it up.
