Saw one on the WFF Facebook page that was killed at Crow creek. Hopefully I'll have a good report from Uchee after this weekend.

I hunted at crow creek this weekend, I was next to the unit where the buck was killed. I let a 2yr 7pt walk on the first day and blew a chance on a 3-4yr old buck the following day, overall was a fun hunt with plenty of deer movement except for the last day and me screwing up my chance at that buck!

Thanks for the updates, good luck at Uchee. It had lots of deer last year.
Yes, there are assigned units and it should have came with in the email from the biologist.

Yes it’s two zones and one first come first serve area at the far end of the property that open to all hunters selected. If you draw zone 1 send me a pm. That’s the area I hunted.

I would like to see that and hear a little more.

I think that email was because they cancelled the screw up draws. I checked my wifes status after the email and all her registrations still say pending selection or hunt cancelled (for the screw ups).

Mine said that earlier but now says not selected and got email from them a few minutes ago. Might not be done with all draws yet.

Solo hunted zone 1 at Upper State this weekend. I was covered in hogs and shot a nice eating size sow for the cooler. I only had one good draw with some good oaks, but it didn't pan out. Got burned out due to lack of sleep by the third day (tent camped at St. Stephens) and made too many mistakes.

There were deer just about everywhere except the floodplain swamp which made up ~90 % of my unit. Lots of deer killed in zone 6 next to me by some really nice folks from out of state. I think they had a 4.5 year old 6 point and a few does. On the way out on my last hunt on Saturday night, the biologist said 3 bucks and 5 does were killed. Didn't get to see the other two bucks. There were 6 units in use.

It was an awesome place, and I'd go back again. I shouldn't have tried to kill a deer with my unit and should have just focused on the hogs. I would have had an even better time.

I can also see why someone backed out of my unit, and I was selected as an alternate. It was pretty muddy back there and my unit was the only one without any plots. It also had a huge clearcut right down the middle.

I would have traded hunts with you, I’ll be in zone 1 for the February hunt. I scouted it and while i didn’t see a whole lot of sign, i did see 3 good bucks, 2 fawns, and at least 3 hogs, one single in the hardwoods and a group in the edge of the tornado path. I’m really worried that zone 1 will be flooded in February but the biologist said they will put us somewhere else if that happens. He wouldn’t tell me where but i would have loved to have scouted the backup zone too. If you look at google maps, there is only about 30-50 acres of zone 1 that is not completely under water. Was that you i saw scouting off a 4 wheeler? I was walking the property line and saw you driving down the road.

I take that back, i saw tons of sign but didn’t really figure out where i would want to hunt in February. Did you ever hunt the firebreak around the east side of the tornado path?

That's funny, I didn't realize the cut in the middle was from a tornado. Now I remember someone telling me that.

I scouted Sunday afternoon on the scout weekend and didn't see anyone. During the hunt I spent most of my time around the east side of the unit, and was happiest at the foot of the hill after you make that 90º west turn in the SE corner of the unit. I had spotted several deer back there during my scout, but it was absolutely covered with hogs this weekend. I'm talking dozens and dozens pouring through. There is a nice open draw on the east side of the unit just west of cutoff road. I liked it there, but the folks over in unit 6 liked the other side of the road too. I heard some grunting and had a doe cruise through, and realized later it was the other group of hunters grunting to try and pull it back onto their side. Otherwise, the rest of the unit is difficult to hunt. The tornado path doesn't have many good trees to climb, and the west side of the unit is either too thick or has massive trees that I couldn't get a climber on. I did bump up more deer and hogs over there too, but I couldn't get the truck back there due to the muddiness and it was a long walk.

I can only imagine what it will be like in February... If it was this wet in October, which is usually our driest part of the year, it can only get worse... But, perhaps the biologist has a plan for you. I don't think they let anyone hunt unit 4 (the handicap area), so maybe that will be your backup. If so, I think you'll be pleased with the hunt. I jumped deer every time I drove through there.
