So......at work this afternoon and a boss comes up to me pissed off beyond belief. He said that there were purple spots all over his wife's brand new Audi SUV that he drove to work today. Coincidentally.....my guys did some plumbing repairs earlier today under the building but close enough to this Audi that the wind blew purple prime spots all over this bright white SUV. I tried a few things to clean it off with zero luck. I know this primer is designed to soften PVC for the glue process, so I'd imagine that it is deep inside the paint. When I wiped it, it took a little off but was still purple and real smooth, meaning it didn't feel like it was on the surface of the paint, but down inside the paint.
He's taking it to a detailer - should have more info for me tomorrow.
Thoughts on getting this off? Its all over the hood, front quarter panel, front and rear drivers side doors, and I think a few spots on the roof.
I have a bad feeling that buffing won't work and a new paint job is in order.
Did I mention that this Audi is BRAND NEW??
Thoughts from the experts?
We're not going to put a bunch of different chemicals on the paint to try and get it off as I'm sure that'll do even more damage.

Tetrahydrofuran is a very strong solvent, it has likely desolved the clear coat depositing the primer pigment (purple) into the paint base layer. I doubt you will be able to remove the purple stain.

I was going to post..."Oatey Clear Cleaner." It's probably his best option this side of wet sanding with 2000 grit, then buffing out or just having the car repainted. That purple primer is something else. It is designed to soften PVC which is plastic. And car paint is basically a form of plastic too. So... It doesn't look good from where I'm sitting.

My thoughts exactly. Luckily the ole bossman ain't pissed at me, just the dumbass that did it. It's gonna hurt the company to have to pay for a new paint job on a brand new car though!

You name it and ive had to get purple primer off of it... Except maybe a new Audi. Clear cleaner works though

Clay bar. Close the thread. My white Toyota 4Runner got yellow paint ALL OVER IT, at the airport parking garage. $22.00 for a kit and about an hour of work and it was clean.

I’m still trying to figure out how the wind blew that purple primer. That just seems odd to me It happens.

A clay bar will not work in this situation. Clay bars are for surface contaminates and scratches. This is like it absorbed in to the paint. The clay bar would slide right over it and not remove it. I'm thinking a full paint job will be needed.

regular paint thinner isn't hot enough to damage the paint. Lacquer thinner will tho. That purple primer is hotter than both and I'd bet you are gonna need to paint that car. Or the panels that are stained.
