The company I'm working for provides me with a company truck but they pay .58 cents a mile if you use yours. I drive between 200 and 400 miles a day. Just wanted to see what y'alls thoughts were. Keep driving their's or get one to work out of and take the mileage.

So you're looking at making $100 to $200 a day just on mileage? Know what I would do.

I've done both. I'll take company truck.

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

Driving theirs is going to be a better deal. But, if you have a nice truck sitting at home that is costing you money, you may come out better using a singular vehicle for work and personal, and covering most of the expense and depreciation through the mileage reimbursement.

I drive a similar amount and wish I had a company vehicle.
That many miles you'll depreciate a vehicle RAPIDLY.

Hit a deer, not your problem.
When gas goes up, not directly your problem.
When you blow a tire and thrash a fender, not your problem.

Lots of ways to lose money using your truck. The only way I've ever seen it being a money maker was when a coworker bought an older vehicle for $5k. He paid cash for it, did almost all the maintenance himself, bought used tires off eBay,...

I have a company truck, way better than driving your own.

Never had a company truck to drive but this makes perfect sense to me. The peace of mind would make my work day much better.

I’ve done it both ways in years past I’d always go company truck if I had the choice.

Ok company truck it is. Guess it was the lure of the money that got to thinking about it.

Company Truck.

I had a company truck for the last 10 years. Thats the ONLY thing I miss about my old place of employment.

Average 300mi/day x 5days/week = 1500mi x $.56 = $840.00 x4weeks in a month = $3360.00/month
Subtract $50.00/day youll put in the gas tank and you have $2360.00/ month left
Hard for me to believe all you fellas would turn down $2360.00 a month just so you can drive another mans truck. You could buy you a brand new work truck and one to keep at home and have a good bit left over at that rate. Is my math right, or am I missing something?

Are they paying gas on both options?

No company will pay gas AND mileage.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

72k miles a year on average youd make $42k for gas and maintenance. How big a truck do you need? you could find something with excellent gas mileage and it might work to your advantage. Company truck saves you alot of headache though no maintenance, insurance or payments. id probably take the company truck and let them deal with the problems when they arise.
