I've been after this old deer for 3 years and it finally came together this morning. I've got hundreds of pics of this deer this summer and fall and was fairly confident of his bedroom and travel routes. My son and I setup a tree stand for him last Saturday, I tried to be stealthy in this process but my 8 year old peed all over the place and made a rope swing with a big ol vine so no chance of a quick and quite setup. Monday I go check a camera to see if he showed back up and sure enough he was back in the area. The plan was take off Tuesday but work decided different so my brother had first opportunity to get him and almost did but couldn't get a shot, lucky for me! I get up and get to the stand early this morning, perfect East wind and chilly! First few minutes and a few does graze by chomping on all the whiteoaks and as bad as I'd like to stroke one of those im there for Sasquatch. Around 800 I check to see when my brother saw the deer from his "oh crap there he is" message and see that it was around 815. So I range the trail he said the buck user and set my slider pin to 30 yards. Few minutes later I get some messages and start checking them and paying no attention to 4008373929737 squirrels. Well a different noise catches my ear and I look up and notice movement to my left, it's him on the same trail he was on Tuesday and he has walked through the wide open woods and almost past me, stupid phone I immediately put my phone up reach grab my bow and draw it like Rambo shooting grenade tipped rockets. As soon as I get to full draw I throw out the Mehhh and he stops and I turn it loose.....Bulls eye! From the moment I saw him to the shot was maybe 10 seconds and probably the only reason I was able to hold it together and not miss him, I had no time for buck fever. Sas ran about 50 yards and I heard him crash, then it all hit and I shook so bad in the tree I couldn't move much less get down. I finally settled down after talking to my dad and was able to get down and follow a horror show of blood right to him! Very Blessed morning! He is a main frame 10 point and about as symmetrical as can be. Don't really know what he will score and don't care, he is still in full velvet and is just a beautiful buck. I have no clue why he is in full velvet but it's gonna make a gorgeous mount! I could write a book on this deer and this hunt but I'll keep it short! I working on pics upload image online for urlpichost

What an absolutely beautiful buck. He will make some fine Wallpaper. Haven't seen velvet around here in a while. Did he have an injury that you noticed... possibly to his jewels... ??

I've seen one other velvet buck and my friend killed it probably 20 years ago and it had no "berries". This buck had everything , I thought something may have been wrong but when field dressing him I saw no signs of injury.

Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.
