I had a friend refer to me last week as "Nature's Instrument"

I thought that was pretty cool, but I'm open to suggestions.

Great team for my first time in the contest!

I’m not picky with a name because I’m not good at picking them but I’ll contribute if need.

Most importantly I’m gonna head out around 1:30EST and see if I can get us on the board

Couldn’t close the deal today. Lowered my bow to the ground, climbed down to my 3rd stick and removed my top one. Looked up and a buck walked 15 yards and started eating acorns. Nothing I could do but sit and watch... smh.

I vote stone cald killers. Be in a tree thursday guys. Looks like I'm getting up to camp just at the right time. Supposed to rain all day tues and wed morning. We need it something terrible at our place in north barbour/south Russell county. That cold front should have the deer on their feet. I'm letting the air out of the 1st doe that gets in range. Good luck if yall are getting after em in the morning!!

Stone cald killers it is.

Good luck to everyone hunting in the next few days. I’ll be pretty limited in my time in the tree for the next few weeks, but hope to squeeze in a hunt or two.

I was able to slip out yesterday afternoon for a few hours. Saw 10-12 does and a couple of small bucks. Was waiting on a big 8 that’s been in the area. Shot a coyote right at last light.

Gonna try it again in the morning. May shoot a doe If I get a chance early on.

Nothing moved. Checked all my camera pics, and they all shut down aboiut 4:00 am. Must have been because of the storm coming in. Thought about going back up there today, and decided not to fight the mud this early in the season.

I'll be in SC next weekend for 3 days hunting.

Thanks. Truth be told,I got busted by a pretty good 3 yr old 8 about an hour before I smoked this doe. Wasn't my target buck for this area, but a good one nonetheless. Also,Thursday night,I had a bonafide stud directly behind my tree at 30.6 yards; by the time I got situated and ready to draw on him,he'd moved out to 40 and stood there. He initially was stuck at 80 yards in a little thick patch of trees, and I was watching him through the binos. Didnt act like he was going to come any closer. After 15 minutes, he and another buck walked off out of my sight. I thought they were gone forever. About 45 seconds later,I heard a racket that direction in the woods. Directly after that,a doe and yearling ran out of that same area with that buck right on there heels. The doe and yearling ran to the base of my tree and turned around to look back at the buck. He stood there posturing and stomping at them for about 45 seconds; that's when I was trying to get positioned. Normally i would've been ready, but they covered 80 yards in about 4 seconds coming my way. I was shocked. I've never seen a big buck like that act aggressively towards a doe. He was kicking them out of that area. When he walked back to 40 yards,he stood there staring at them for 10 min,all the while I was standing there holding my bow up. I thought my arm was going to fall off. I was really close to getting us some serious points . Luckily, he didnt spook at all, just walked off back to that patch of trees. It was my very 1st time sitting that stand. I'll definitely be ready for him next time

I thought my arm was going to fall off. I was really close to getting us some serious points . Luckily, he didnt spook at all, just walked off back to that patch of trees. It was my very 1st time sitting that stand. I'll definitely be ready for him next time

Man that sounds exciting and nerve racking at the same time lol. First time sits can be money

No luck in SC. Weather was too warm, and we had monsoon rains for half the trip.

Will be back in the Georgia woods this weekend.

We’ve got a cold front coming in and pre rut is starting here in NC. I’ve found what should be a good spot. Lots of fresh sign with some bedding and staging areas. Soon as I get a good wind I’m heading in

Congrats on the kill.

Weather is starting to look good, pretty excited to have a full weekend to hunt. I’ve been seeing a bunch of deer, been waiting on a good one mostly, but my trigger finger is getting itchy.

Slayin, where in Russell county do you hunt?

Bigcountry, you will like the saddle way better than just a harness

We're right on the barbour/Russell county line. Our camp is right on cowikkee creek, which is also the county line. Got about 1200 acres in russell, and 4k in barbour just across the creek. Been fortunate enough to be on the same place for just over 30 years now

10-4, how far off the river? I used to hunt holy trinity and cottonton, miss having that early rut. Now I’ve got some turkey leases in mt Andrew and Clayton, but don’t deer hunt down that way much anymore

We're about 5 miles west of 431. Pittsview/ glenville area. Usually see some chasing start toward the 3rd week of Dec. Last week and 1st week of Jan is wide open.

The new saddle is great! First sit in it and I had a 6pt come by after about 10 of being set up.

After the 6 pt I had a hot doe come in so let her walk as we are starting the rut here. About 10 minutes later I heard a grunt and had a young basket 4 pt come in trailing her. I’m headed back tomorrow afternoon.

Good luck man!! Sounds like you're gonna get a shot at one soon. Have your grunt call ready to stop him today. It can happen really fast when they're chasing like that.

I busted a doe last night out of my ground blind. 1st deer I've killed out of it in the 3 years I've owned it. Also my longest bowkill on a deer at 34 yards. Big nanny. Earlier in the hunt,I had a really nice 3 yr old 8 point come within 30 yards of my blind, and I almost shot him;just figured he could use 1 more year. Prob 115" deer. Did get some pretty sweet footage of him though. I'll post the vids on here when I make it back to the house this evening.

Congrats slayin, mighty fine bow kill!

I hunted Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Saw 35-40 deer, 6 rack bucks, possibly one shooter, but didn’t get a good look at him in some privet. Got a pretty cool video of two bucks sparring at 20yds on the ground.

Got the boom stick out and gave her a once over with the scentless oil. I'll be heading up to camp for the gun opener and staying through till after Thanksgiving. I'll be trying to get the Mrs. on a buck, but I'm sure I'll get in a hunt or 2.. You guys got plans to be in the woods for the gun opener?

Just added one to the points thread from Twiggs County, GA. If I calculated right, should be worth 14 points.

Killed a doe also, but it was so late when we got back to camp, I forgot to take the picture.

I had family fly in unexpected so I’ve been tied up with that. If m heading out tomorrow to a spot I’ve consistently seen deer at this year so maybe tomorrow is the day.

Passed on a 9 that I thought needed one more year. I let him walk last yr in the exact same spot. Acted just like he did a year ago to. Managed to get my wife on a buck,so it's back to chasing the big boys when I get back up to camp. Not sure when that'll be. Good luck in the mean time.

Looks like a dang good time!

I haven’t spent much time in the woods lately, but will start hunting hard here soon, both my places have a Christmas rut, and it’s getting close to go time.

Thanks. I’m liking the saddle just for the mobility. It’s convenient to be able to slip in and hunt new spots. We’ve got almost 3k acres and it’s really opened up my options. Especially slipping into bedding areas without much noise. The afternoon that I killed this buck, I actually climbed a tree 75 yds from where some does were bedded and never spooked them.

When does that points get added to the team page so we can see where we are at in this race?

Got us an upgrade buck!! Shot this tall 9 fri evening right at last light. He came out behind a doe ,and let out the loudest grunt I've ever heard a deer make. It was a bellow. Shot him right through the shoulder, and he piled up about 30 yards into the woods. I'm thrilled with him.

Congrats! That’s a pretty deer!

I’m hoping that I can get back in the woods soon, haven’t been able to go since I killed that deer and it’s the peak of the rut at both my places.

Man, they are just getting fired up at our place. This buck I shot was stinking bad and his hocks were real dark. Nothing like being in the woods when they're chasing and acting crazy like that. Its awesome

All thanks to you guys. I’m down to the last week of season and haven’t slung an arrow yet. I’ve seen plenty of deer I just haven’t been able to close the deal, hopefully I can get one here in the last week.

I’ve got a piece of land near the house that hardly ever has any decent deer. Terrible neighbors. Well this year I’ve had a solid 8 pretty regular at night. Also had a decent 10 show up one night only. My cell cams died about two weeks ago and I haven’t had time to get out there and swap them. Knowing the rut was on, johnal3 and I slipped out there this morning for a quick hunt. I put him in the area that the 8 had been showing and sure enough he followed some does out of a bottom near John, but never offered a good shot. I had him change the batteries before leaving and sure enough at 11:15 he showed up by himself. My wife has never killed a deer so I talked her into going this afternoon, knowing that he was likely to screw up. We sat on the ground in some gobbler loungers because she doesn’t care for tree stands. With the wet leaves it was tough on a newbie. Rattled in a small buck and managed to have him pass at 15yds undetected. Saw a few does and rattled one more time at 4;45. About 10 minutes go by and I hear something. He’s trotting straight at us at 40yds. Directly to her right. I slipped my gun up on him as I whispered to her. He noticed us at 8-10yds and came to a halt. It was getting fairly dark and we had a heck of a stare down. We could hear deer to our left and eventually a doe walked by within 10yds. The buck watched her for 20-30 seconds and I figured he was going to turn and follow. Wrong, he turned right back to us and kept staring. Eventually he wheeled and ran to about 30 yds. I got him in the scope, but couldn’t bring myself to shoot him. He slowly walked off, so maybe I can get her back on him.

Sounds like awesome hunt. Nothing like having a close encounter on the ground to the adrenaline going, thats a nice buck too.

Congrats moody!

I drew on a good buck Friday afternoon but he didn’t get inside of 40 yards. I sat all day yesterday and didn’t see a single deer.

Keep at them big country, and whack us a doe if you get the chance. The last weeks of January will be my doe killing time.

Uncle Huck is bout to get serious. Texas was not what I hoped it would be this year.

Starting my Alabama tour next week. Hoping for an upgrade to my early season 8.

Rattled in 2 bucks this morning in the same climber I shot the bow buck out of. One of them is a buck I've been watching since August
Hes got 5 on one side and just a brow and short main beam on the other. It's either an injury or he broke it early in velvet and it never grew. Maybe should've shot him cause I know hes old enough, but I didnt wanna buck out with him. Did get some sweet footage of him and the other buck that came in looking for a fight this morning. They sure can pinpoint where they hear the rattling from. The 1st buck circled my tree twice looking for it. Was a pretty cool encounter

I tried to upgrade this past week, but shot another 8 point. Bigger deer, but would not increase our score.

Thanks! He had a noggin on him for sure.

I had seen pictures of a real beast on that place, but after 3 full days of hunting with no luck on mature deer, this guy walked out about 30 minutes before dark. Bad move on his part.

I figured he was at least 4 years old, but asked the taxidermist to confirm the age when he skins out the head for the euro.

I'm stuck back home in tampa till the last week of the season. I plan on shooting a couple does for the freezer and trying one last time for another buck.

If you find yourself coming back, shoot me a message and I’ll put you on a deer. Have land around Birmingham and Lamar county.

Thanks man! I may take you up on that sometime. My parents house is in cullman so either place isn’t far.

My dad passed on the 12th so we were down for a few day but the kids had to get back to school and my wife had to go back to work.

My season has ended, with the initial 8 I posted being the best I was able to record. I killed one doe, but forgot to take a picture and submit her. Sorry about that.
