Where you buy it from.
Lots of folks drive to Atmore to buy because total taxes are only 2.5%.
If you buy from out of state, you'll have to pay state taxes when you get your tag.

This is in state. The dealership wants to charge based on their tax rate but I live outside the city so mine should be 1.5% less. You're not buying it at your house. You're buying it where they do business. Now, if they'll bring it to your house and settle everything up you may have a case.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Show them your tax exempt certificate and pay taxes where you live when you buy your tag or deal with it.

Actually you pay it on where you live. Every car/truck I’ve bought I paid the lower lee county tax regardless of where I bought it. Your confusing ad valurum taxes and sales tax.

Best I remember you can buy a tag for your boat anywhere in Alabama. You can only buy a tag for your truck in the county you live in This has nothing to do with it tags.

Why is it different with tractors? I've had dealers figure tax on where your farm is located, not where you live, because it's cheaper on taxes.
83% of all statistics are made up.
