Not having much luck finding one, so figured I'd ask on here. I'm needing one for the camp fire this year...

Just get a dutch oven. Can do anything with it you can do in a skillet and it has a wire handle on top. Plus you cane make peach cobbler! If your skillet has a hole in the handle for hanging You can fab up a handle that goes in there. I'll see if I can find the one I made.

there's a somewhat boutique brand called "Stargazer" that is made with a long handle that would work awesome over a camp fire ...

https://stargazercastiron.com/

if/when i get back into camping, my plan is to bring one of my biggest skillets & just use my fish fryer ... no need for a long handle at that point ... but i do get the "romance" of cooking over open flame/coals

Nice i like the second one you posted, the first one is called a spider skillet (at least that's what i heard) it has legs, which would actually be pretty useful if you think about

in my cast iron pickin', i see many more spider sauce pans vs skillets ... but man, that old gate marked stuff is high $$$$ when you bump into it ... at least that's been what i've seen over the past 3+ years of finding/restoring this old stuff

Yeah i would think the spider pan would be more useful for an open fire or hot coal bed, instead of inside the home, probably why you see so many

oh ya, for sure ... they're super neat to find -- i've bumped into several -- and they appear to be battle axes (thick & heavy iron) -- but b/c most of 'em are from the late 1800's, they're super expensive usually

They cooked out of one that had three legs on it in Argentina to make a stew. They used another one to go on the coals of the fire to cook some side meat. It was good.

Yep and drill a hole in pipe so you can drop in a screw or pin through the skillet handle hole to hold it into place in the pipe
