Let me get this straight, someone came to your house site , dug the holes and did a certified perc test for free? Please explain.

Built my Cabin in Chambers County 3 years ago. Septic Tank Installer flagged where he was proposing to install field lines......County Inspector came out with a dibble and took 3 soil samples....tested the moisture content during a timed period....said all was good. The permit I purchased I assume pays part of his Salary. They don't dig 4 foot and 2 foot holes....fill with water and measure Dissipation over a timed period...Anymore...Old Method.

It doesn't work that way in Jackson Co. Jackson County health dept. which is ADPH ain't digging any holes and doing a pec test. You hire a surveyor or civil engineer or whoever else the state says can do it, and then Heath Dept . issues the permit if it passes. Oh , and it ain't free.

Yep, that figure sounds right. Knowing how our bunch works I'm flabbergasted someone from the county or state actually did a perc test and did it for free.

well, since my land did not perc, i did have to hire a civil engineer to design my septic/mound system (paid him $1500) and THEN the big money came -- dirt hauling & a certified installer for the system ... that set me back a LOT of $$$

Exactly how mine was done last year. $600 if I'm not mistaken.

Just make sure they don't do the dipper test (dip out the water until they get the answer wanted). It sounds good and will save you a lot of money on the install. You will forget about the savings when the sewage overflows into your house a few years later.

Henry county did mine. I called the septic man, he set it all up. He handled everything

Took me forever to get county approval. I couldn’t perc. Ended up running a lot more field line than I anticipated and using fill dirt above what God put there. It wasn’t free. All the county would do is show up and approve or not approve what someone we hired had done.

No idea of cost, but a friend of mine works for the state. He runs those tests at times. Pretty sure there is a fee, a permit fee maybe?
