This has gotten out of hand. Just heard on the radio about a guy keeping pigs in his backyard claiming they were emotionally supportive. Last month, some lady took a dadgum Shetland pony on a friggin airplane!

I agree this is out of hand. I fee for those that need help, but come on. Can a dog talk to you and comfort you? Now everyone thinks it's ok to take their pet into stores and cafes. People have lost their minds.

If your anxiety is to the point that only a pony can solve the problem, you need to be in a loony house.

One of the biggest loads of crap scams going. You can buy a emotional support vest on ebay, no questions asked.

We had a woman get around our pet policy playing that card she picked up a mutt at the pound and literally had a doctors letter for emotional support within 12 hours. I cant stand seeing someone my age in a store with a dam dog because they might have an anxiety attack its a joke

most retailers dont understand the difference between and emotional support animal and a real Service Dog emotional support animals have no protection under the ADA to be allowed in public it mainly applies to housing. a real service dog can go anywhere. but everyone is so scaref of lawsuits they just allow it.

They should feel the same way about open carry. They should just allow it because they don't understand it, They should also be scared of lawsuits from trying to stop it. I conceal carry myself but just saw some ironic humor in the statement. My 45 never shat in the floor of a store ither. lol

Saw an article a day or 2 ago where a guy in New Zealand hired an "Emotional Support Clown" to attend a work meeting with him, because he was afraid he was going to be fired in the meeting (he was).....

Apparently the managers in the meeting had to ask the clown to be quiet a few times because he was making too much noise, making balloon animals.........I s**t you not.

The guy with the pigs may just be smart. He may want some home grown pork for the freezer and be using the emotional support crap as an excuse to be able to keep the pigs. That’s what I’d do if I wanted to do that and lived in town.

We have a member on this board that did this to get their dog in a pet-free apartment complex.

All it will take is someone shopping in a store to get bit by a so called "emotional support" animal and this will go the other direction very quickly. Alexander Shunnarah, Mike Slocumb and all the other ambulance chasers you see on TV will be chomping at the bits to get on something like this.

Some of this is just insane, but my dad was having some agitation due to his Dementia / Alzhiemer's would only settle down when his lapdogs would sit with him. They do work under certain circumstances. But some of these idiots just need their head examined.

BPI that's great that they would settle your dad down as most of our pets do but we don't carry them out to shopping and much less to a restaurant to eat. What the hell happens to health code and safety. Looney tunes. Bet they use hand sanitizer like it's lotion by the bottles.

girl I knew in college (I hesitate to call her a "friend", more an "acquaintance") went online and somehow registered her azzhole miniature schnauzer as a "service dog". Vest and all. She was bats**t crazy, but she didn't need a service animal, she just wanted to be able to take the dog everywhere she went. And she'd be the first one to tell you that. this was ~15yrs ago, IIRC.

I'm guilty. I took my chocolate lab Buck to the camp one weekend. We stopped in Pine Hill for lunch on the way home. It was HOT outside and I didn't want to leave him in a running truck for 1/2 an hour in Pine Hill (had a trailer hooked up so couldn't park in the door where I could watch the truck.). Asked the waitress if we could bring him in and he'd lay down beneath the table in the back. Offered to sweep up if he shed any. She was fine with it. He laid down and didn't make a peep. Gave him my cornbread muffin after. My son was scandalized. Told me I was turning into my mother (who also had a pair of service dogs, although the first one of those was certified).

It's their right to have an emotional support dog if they choose, but IMHO their right to bring it in places should be restricted to where they are welcomed/allowed.

Yes, it's out of hand. badly. Yes I recognize the irony in MY saying that in light of the above related story.

That is not a support animal. That is a service animal and there is a big difference that is recognized by law. Service animals are highly trained and certified for the function they perform. A support animal is owned be a loon that wants attention. I don't buy the pony on a plane story. They have to allow service animals, but not support animals. Now, if it was a seeing eye horse..........

The horse story was legit.........it was reported by many/most of the major "legitimate" news sources. The woman claims to have PTSD (doesn't say why) and is allergic to dogs.

A dad of one of my wife's students (few years ago) here has one. He's ex-military and suffers from ptsd. His IS NOT a bs service dog. It's legit. The dog i inherited from my mom after she died thinks she's an emotional service animal. smile She can tell when i'm agitated/angry and if i sit still for even a minute, she's up in my lap getting as close to me as she can. It's really uncanny. She's not like that during times when it's just a normal day. But i ain't gonna call her a service dog and carry her everywhere either!

The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I need a 28 year old, busty blonde Swedish masseuse for emotional support when I travel for business and go the the hunting camp. I'll run that by the wife tonight and see what she thinks.

I have an emotional support cooler. My wife keeps it filled with cold beer and an occasional bottle of whiskey. My nerves are just fine.

I saw the girl on the news with the horse. It was obvious she fed off the attention she got from have the animal with her

If you need an emotional support animal to fly, you shouldn't be flying. Get in your vehicle and drive.

And you damn well know that that dog wasn't paid for with a credit card. If it was, every single person on Aldeer would have heard about the points this this goofball saved on a dog.

Last week I flew to Charlotte, then Asheville. Charlotte International is a yuge airport, Asheville has 7 gates. I don't recall seeing any "service dogs" at Charlotte, but little yuppy/safespace Asheville airport, 6 "service dogs" from ankle biters to a doberman.

I fly a lot and these emotional support dogs are no more than a way to avoid the $75-$150 charge each way the airlines have to fly a pet honestly. Pisses me off to no end.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids
