Its been a while. Im not certain anymore so i want to make sure. Cant you shoot slugs out of any factory barrel that have non adjustable chokes? I have heard decades ago that shooting slugs out of some full choke barrels were a no no. But i have shot them out of full choke guns. Whats the rules on this? I was gonna start shooting a 410 with a factory barrel that has a full choke. Im i safe?

I’ve always heard improved was best for accuracy, but I don’t know about full in terms of safety.

I don't think it's dangerous as far as I know. They'll be like buckshot though- you can mess up the choke constriction by shooting those loads through them. I've always treated chokes by what the gun companies say about them. Usually means only shooting the biggest shot sizes through more open chokes. You ain't worried about a good pattern with a slug though , but you can still mess up the choke for when you do want to use shot loads

I didnt think about that. Good point. Yeah these 2 410s are 3in full choke guns. Just the factory fixed choke thats not threaded. I think i have shot slugs out of this rascal before. We had the full choke 16ga. We shot slugs out of it but were nervous and stupid. Maybe gundoc or some expert will chime in. Thanks!

Unless you're on a shotgun only hunting area, I guess I just ask the question of why?
243 will work just fine and there isn't the fear of a barrel exploding.

Lol good point. I always heard yes and no on the barrel. I still dont know but will get to the bottom of it if no one here chimes in. I just had these two 410s sittin here and my kid was getn up in age to be fiddlin with one. I was gonna let him use it to deer hunt and upgrade for gifts as time passed. Im gonna have to findout before my luck eventually runs out lol.

This is just my opinion!! But it’s also what I know and not what I heard, so take it for what you want. It won’t hurt a thing, I’d shoot a slug and some 000 buck through that .410. See which one is accurate at the longest range. Only down fall to slugs is that may not be accurate. I’ve shot hundreds of rounds of buckshot through my turkey choke on a Stoeger 2000, and it patterns turkey loads just fine, your not gonna “shoot the choke out” with lead shot. Your pushing lead out of steel, you’ll be just fine. It’s not gonna explode or nothing like that.

Sounds good to me. I figured id ask and see if anyone had any horror stories. It must be a myth. I hope!

This is off the box of Remington Sluggers. With a sue-happy society, I doubt this would be on there if any risk was involved.

That’s for accuracy, or that’s how I’ve always taken it.

Well, yeah. But it doesn't say...."do not use with full chokes or your gun will blow up"

My 870 slug gun, an older one, came with improved cylinder from the factory.

100% safe with regular ol, lead projectile, Foster's style rifled slugs. However, the constriction is tight enough that it will cause way more deformation (than designed for) of the slug than with a cylinder or improved cylinder choke. That usually means even worse accuracy than they already experience.

I shot them through my old 1100 with a factory full barrel.. no problems and dropped the deer with a nice exit hole.
