Eighteen shells for 15 birds in South Carolina a few years ago. We were in a patch of sunflower and seven or eight of us limited out in about 20 minutes. We could pick our shots. Aside from that outlier, usually at least two boxes.

Best for me was 20 shells for a limit...Worst was 6 boxes years ago for 10 birds lol...I usually shoot just under 2 boxes to get a limit nowadays

A good field makes a lot of difference, easy slow passing birds, ain’t hard to hit. High, quick, birds is a whole other game

A good field makes a lot of difference, easy slow passing birds, ain’t hard to hit. High, quick, birds is a whole other game X100. If you have plenty of birds, it is a lot easier to hit them and you can pick your shots.
