1100 FPS is 1100 FPS, and #8 shot is #8 shot, don’t matter if it’s 7/8 oz or 1/8 oz. just my thoughts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nice shotgun for sure. My boss has one of these prob 8-10 years old, bought it new, shot one dove shoot oiled it up and never shot it again, asked me what I’d give him for it, said he just don’t ever see him using it again. Kinda price should I offer him?

The further you try and kill a Dove the less dense the pattern. So....a 7/8 oz. load from a 20 will not be as dense as a 1&1/4 oz. load from a 12 say out at 40 to 45 yards with say a modified choke. Therefore with the 20 you will have "Holes/Gaps" in the pattern that a small target like a dove can be completely missed or maybe just one pellet say in the Azz and all you get is a few feathers!! I'm a very good shot and I've tried the longer shots with both...Yes you'll can kill one at 45 yards with a 20....but not near as consistently. Not to mention that the shorter the stack of shot of a larger gauge will pattern better than a taller stack of a smaller gauge.....410 is a prime example.

I kill doves with a 28 that most folks wouldn’t try with a 12. Fetus also shoots a 10ga at turkeys too

I'm asking because I don't know: Why do they even make larger caliber shotguns, if there's no difference in killing power/range?

But some of us aren't "most folks"....as the statute of limitations has run out....my best shoot in the U.S. was 114 on a field near Loachapoka in '81....my Buddy beside me had 97. I'll shoot my 12 and shoot beside anybody with a sub-gauge and most likely beat them in numbers....shot a LOT of Doves growing up and through my thirties when we had a LOT of Doves....

Your numbers sound great. But fact of the matter is I did too grow up in good dove numbers. I don’t want my shoulder going thru that punishment when I can accomplish same numbers with zero punishment

Reno, you did right going with the 20. I've probably shot a semi-trailer load of doves over the years with 20's. To me a 20 is the perfect dove and quail gun. I honestly cannot remember the last time I shot birds with a 12 ga. A 12 guage for doves and quail is complete overkill. If factory shells werent so hard to find for it, I wouldnt mind going with a 28 like .257 said. I shot quail one time over at a plantation in south GA with a Ruger Red Label 28 gauge with the heavy engraving and unreal wood and that was the sweetest pointing and shooting little shotgun I've ever had in my hands.

I shoot a Remington 1100 LT-20 with fixed full choke, I started with a 12 modified. Got to be a decent shot and swapped to a 20. I kill just as well and just as far as I did with the 12.

Nice gun! A 20 gauge will certainly kill doves efficiently and effectively. I use a 12 with 1 1/4 oz of shot traveling at 1330 fps because I want to kill a limit and get off the field. My goal is not simply a limit on the opener. I want to kill limits throughout the season. The extra shot and velocity IMHO lets me shoot a limit quicker. Doves that feed unmolested keep using the field. The next weekend is when you see the difference.

This I agree with! When you can put 10 to 12 hunters in a field at 2:30 and everyone is out with a limit by 4 your birds can come in and feed before dark and you're good to go the next weekend.
