I’ve got a compact 11-87 20 gauge with a 21” barrel that I want to set up as a dedicated turkey gun.
I plan to use a TSS load, but don’t have any prior experience with it, and don’t think I’ll load my own.
So...TSS load and brand suggestions and obviously choke preferences - especially from those shooting a short barreled 20 would be much appreciated. Any other modifications y’all like I’d like to hear also.

Get you some Apex 9’s. There are hundreds of options for chokes that will all throw great patterns. It all depends on your preference if you want a super tight pattern or open it up for a more even pattern. Indian creek, trulock, carlson in a .555-.580 constriction or the factory full will get the job done.

I also jumped on the red dot wagon last year and love my vortex venom.

JBL, Ike is shooting a 20gauge so they're $8.25ish per shell.
Which is of course expensive but a 20%'ish reduction off the $12 per above.

Skip going out to lunch once a week for a month and that's a box of shells.

I would imagine most turkey hunters shoot 1-2 boxes per year.

Any of the tss will be fine, I’ve tried Apex and Federal and both are killers. If you haven’t hunted with a 21” barrel, you will really appreciate it in the woods. I hunted with a 21” 11-87 for years with rifle sights, but have switched to a FF3 a couple years ago. The red dot is definitely worth the expense as your eyes get older. Always fun setting up a new gun!

Thanks for the tips. I emailed Apex - I’ll probably just buy shells from them and go with their rec.
I also like the idea of a FF3...but may go with rifle sights instead if I can find some I like

55 yards? Can’t call em in any closer than that? You’re missing out on the fun part at that distance
