I'd much rather know they were wearing a pfd than have 2 motors as search and rescue team member... People are too proud/stupid to wear them and it usually ends bad if they're not. Almost every SAR case I flew on, we would spot PFDs near the scene but, they were always empty

From the time I step out of the truck until I get back in the truck. Mine is self inflating and has a plb that's registered permanently attached to it. The beacon is manual. I figure the body retrieval should not eat up precious resources. If I am able to activate the beacon - please come get me as I really need help.

I run offshore to 50 miles with two different boats 20 feet or less with single engines. Both have a 150+ mile range, epirb for the boat, plb for me, two radios, one with a 12' antennae. One has a new chevy 350, the other an old (2000) 150 ocean pro. I keep seatow current and head back in when I should.

1977 Grady White Marlin 201 and a 2000 McKee Craft dual console 19.

It should be a law that an EPIRB is mandatory on all boats going in the gulf or ocean. A satellite could locate them in a second.

Shouldn't be a law for anything. Liberty means it's ok being as dumb as you like. CG should call off the search at dark though.

This definitely. I NEVER leave the dock without it. Should be standard safety equipment.

I have a deep respect for the Gulf/Ocean. I know I don't belong there.

I scrolled through till I came up on post informing that the search was given up on after hundreds and hundreds and upon thousands of miles on the water were searched by every govt agency known to have responsibilities on the oceans and seas,, hundreds of recreational boaters and fishermen too ,,, not a trace but a tackle bag was found which belonged to one of the men ,,, the Robalo they were in was a model which was not foam filled to prevent sinking although Robalo does have models that are foam filled.

Page 131 of the thread ,,, post by Bullrun ,,, Tough day today.

The fact that the extremely extensive search efforts have not turned up a boat, capsized or otherwise; has us presuming Brian and Justin ended up in the water. We arrived here after information from the CG last night that this boat is not foam filled and will sink. Of course we don’t know for sure, or how. The likelihood of surviving 6 days in the water start to get pretty low even for these two guys.

Today we we did the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do- tell my niece and nephew and my son and daughter that daddy/uncle Brian wasn’t coming home. I know anything is possible and they could still be found but we didn’t want to leave them with this ambiguity.

As hard as this chapter has been, the next gets even harder. The world my family knew Friday morning doesn’t exist anymore. We will try to pick up the pieces and do the best we can.

Brian, Stephanie, and their kids.

Bull Run ,, page 165.. My sister Stephanie, Brian's brother Kevin, and mom Carla held a brief press conference in Jacksonville today. They wanted to thank the USGC and partner agencies, JFRD, and the many others who have helped in any way. One small bit of peace we can take away from this ordeal is that due to the exhaustive nature of the search effort, we feel Brian and Justin were not out there and missed. I would like to take this opportunity to specifically thank this forum and the many members who participated in the search, donated, prayed, or helped in any other way. One of the main reasons JFRD had so many private boats and aircraft to direct to search grids was undoubtedly due to this forum and its membership. I can't tell you how many PMs, calls, texts I received from THT from people willing to help. Thank you on behalf of my family.

We still have many questions, What exactly happened? Where specifically is the boat? Who keeps the boys in-line when they come calling for my niece in a few years? Who teaches my nephew how to treat a woman and what it means to be a man? WHY Brian and Justin??? And many more. Some we may never know and some we will figure out as we go.

A donation site has been set up for Brian's family through JFRD; Justin's is there also. I will keep the forum updated on services as I know more.
