I acquired a Summit 180 this summer and I’m planning to sit it a lot this fall. Really large, comfortable stand. Molle backpack straps even make it carry pretty good.
I’m going to practice shooting bow out of it when it cools off a little. Just curious about shooting over that bar. I’ve always bowhunted open front stands. Anything for me to watch for in bowhunting from this stand?
Friend of mine just said to set it low enough that I can shoot over the bar when I stand up. And I guess I need to plan to be standing around prime-time. I’ve always been most comfortable at 12-15 feet. I’m going to try to climb at least 20 this year to give me a little more advantage this year.

On the distance I like to walk to my stands:

I use the exact same climber. Its good for bow and gun. Like your friend said just sit the upper part low enough. I stand most of the time I bow hunt anyway so I leave it pretty low. If you sit in it you probably wont want to stand. They are very comfy climbers.

I hunt a 180 Max with the surround seat and it is awesome. Sit it low and it works great, as set of third hand stabilizer straps help as well to make sure the top doesn’t move when standing.

Personally, I wouldnt use a stand without them.

A $2 bungee cord works just as well.

What everyone else said is pretty much what ya wanna do. I took the Mille straps off of mine and went with the xop treestand carry system they have. I put the stealth strips on the platform and in some areas where the stands nest together. You’ll love that stand. Get a footrest on it and it’s perfect.

I have a summit 180 it has been a great stand. I use to hunt with an ole man climber. The summit is a much better stand and safer. I like facing the tree when gun hunting about 20 ft up, you will enjoy your summit 180.

Or just use the green pack strap (that comes with the stand) and wrap around the tree and upper cable.

Wrong. The 3rd Hand stabilizer straps make the top section rock solid. You can lean waaay out on the top piece and it won’t move. Try that with a $2 bungee cord and that top piece will swing. Been there done that with both. Like jmudler said, I don’t climb with them.

Whatever.
I've never had a problem with using a bungee cord.

Thought I’d post up the video for those that aren’t familiar with the Thirdhand Straps and how they function.

I agree third-hand is a game changer on my Summit Viper.

I noticed he didn't strap the upper section to the tree. For me that secures the seat part of the stand to the tree just fine. I just have a piece of parachute cord tied to my foot climber and the other end attached to seat climber. Never had a problem if it slips down the tree. But with stirrups I just dont see that ever happening, which I noticed he didn't have on his stand either. I have a fanny pack on the front of my stand rail to keep all my crap in and it provides cover if you need to move your hands. I have had two instances where I let a deer too close to me and the rain interfered with my shot. Just be aware where you are at full draw in regard to that rail. I also like to have the rail positioned much lower when I stand up. If I sat in the stand like he did in the video my ass would be killing me after a couple of hours.

I like the bar to be about level with my knees. It's more comfortable there and when I stand the bottom cam/limb will clear it unless I'm shooting straight down.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
