Zephyr 20 ga double, same gun I killed my first deer with, late 60's. Got that gun for my 16th birthday, still shoot it.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Remington Model 1100. Gun was stolen on a home burglary in 1987. Sure wish I could find that one somewhere. Got that gun for my 12th Christmas. Had it in my hand so much that I still remember the serial number. L645035V.

Lynch box and a H&R 088 .410 before it was the cool thing to do .... woulda been Spring ‘85 .... we had HUGE groups of birds back then. You’d see more birds in a day than in a whole season these days.

It was the same gun I used for my first deer, a Winchester 37 in 20 gauge. I got the turkey in 1966, though I had hunted a couple of seasons before that without success.

Gomer- you got the right one. I picked up a Stoeger 3020 this year to jump on the 20ga TSS train. I'm gonna give it a try next spring and see how I like it. But there's at least a 50/50 chance it get's retired to being a dove gun/backup turkey gun and I go back to the 1300 as my main gun. The 1300 just fits like a glove, and with a $20 tightwad choke, it patterns Longbeards like a boss.

Sportsman 58 12g with a poly choke on it. Missed him the first shot and he took off and flew right over my head. Couldn't have been more than 12 ft off the ground when I pulled the trigger the second time. Looked like a shot a feather pillow. Covered me and my buddy. We just rolled around laughing. Shot his beard mostly off as well.

Winchester 1300 Turkey special 12 gauge with Winchester supreme #4's. I still have that gun in my safe and I say every year I'm going to take it and shoot another gobbler with it, but I never do. That's the gun I've killed 90% of my turkeys with, including all three from last year. My first bird was a jake killed in Bullock county with my dad's Winchester Model 120, 12 gauge, modified choke shooting #6's. I have a polaroid pic of that gun, the bird, and me somewhere. Dr. B

[quote=Fishduck] My "first" turkey kill probably deserves a story more so than a description of the weapon used. I was 12 and riding in the back of a pickup with a group of men that my Grandma was taking home. 5 or so black gentlemen with my Grandma and brother in the cab. When Grandma needed work done, we were the very model for integration. She worked all of us hard and paid all of us poorly.
Grandma drove fast, so it paid to hold on. Luckily my Dad had installed wooden slats so we could fill the bed of the truck full all the way to the top of the cab. The slats made it feel safer. A 64 Ford with 3 on the tree and dimmer in the floorboard. They do not make anything like the vehicles of that era. It was old even then but she wouldn't use the "good truck" for chores. The F-150 stayed parked at her house except for social trips.
Because I was the youngest, they gave me the best seat in the bed of the pickup. Standing behind the cab so I could see where we were going. I will never forget the sight as we rounded the curve with Grandma getting all the speed that 64 Ford had. Turkeys erupted like a covey of quail. The clutch applied and brakes squealed. One turkey parted my hair as it flew over. Was a near mis then the "THUMP". As Grandma rolled to a stop a flopping shape was erupting feathers. The bed emptied and the older fellas retrieved it.
All was well until the turkey popped open its eyes and stood up. Those guys had been talking about turkey dinner since the "accident". Did not take them long to subdue the bird and I dispatched it with my Case XX trapper. So my first turkey fell to a 64 Ford pickup truck and a Case XX trapper knife..
