Does anyone have suggestions on some good thumb releases that aren’t extremely expensive? I’m looking to switch over from a wrist release due to target panic. I’m thinking that maybe switching releases will help a little. Does anyone have advice on getting rid of target panic also?

shoot up close, 5 yards, big target. draw, close eyes, work on yer form as you release. rinse. repeat.

Changing releases might help for a short time, but the panic will return. Do as Fred suggested, look up and read as much as you can on target panic. There isn’t a magical quick cure for it. One release that will help is a true (triggerless) back tension release. This takes the trigger out of the equation and forces you to focus on aiming.

I have struggled with it forever. I’ve never been able to shoot spots or dots. I can hit and kill deer fine. Found out my problem was focusing on the pin instead of the dot on the target. I’ve started this year focusing on the dot, the pin just wanders up on its on. Squeeze trigger. Try not to punch it. My shooting is better than ever right now.

Tru Fire makes a release that won’t let the release fire if you “punch” the trigger The Panic X

as Shaw said changing up may help short term but you have to work through the target panic. my suggestion instead of thumb release spend the extra and get a back tension release with a safety on it(saves bloody noses and teeth). shooting back tension correctly and following through with each shot will help. start at 5 yards no sights and just work on shot mechanics. you should be pulling in a straight line from your bow and your elbow should not explode backward but down toward your ribs or hip. That means your release is coming straight off your string and you are getting a smooth release. once you get it the first time you will know. it will surprise you and it will just feel right. there is no forcing it just let it happen.

All good advice given. If possible, have someone take a look at your shooting form, or even video it. I’m sure some of the guys on here could point out what you need to work on
