I got invited to hunt a beautiful piece of property this morning. It stayed overcast and cool for most of the morning. Plus all the young dogs got in on some action. We caught 5 hogs and got taught a very valuable lesson. Lol. After we caught the first hog we pulled down the road a little bit and turned out by a backwater slough. The young dogs went 170 yards and sat down Bayed in the middle of the slough. I got about 50 yards from them and saw that they were all around a hollow cypress tree baying hard so I figured the hog was up in the tree. I decided to go ahead and holler for my buddy to send the bulldog to them and by the time it got there I was 10 yards from the tree. It bailed off in the hollow tree and all I could hear is the worst sound I have ever heard a dog make. I’m thinking it’s a big boar hog so I started trying to get in the hole to give them some help when all at once the bulldog comes out of the hole with an otter attached to his face. That little 3 pound otter put a bad butt whooping on 3 curs and a bulldog. Lol that little guy was attacking everything that moved once they got him out of the hole. So......The lesson was pound for pound the Otter is the baddest animal in the swamp. Lol

Question for the dog guys. How many acres do you need to have permission to hunt on, to feel comfortable turning your dogs out? > 1000 acres, 2000 acres, etc. I'm asking because I've got several tracts that may be an option. Also, how far would you travel? Enjoyed the pictures and nice looking dogs!

if you haven't ever seen a mink in a leghold trap alive they are feisty..bark at you and bare their teeth and snarl... but that otter is a mink on steroids for sure!

It all depends on the property and the hogs that’s on it. I hunt a place that is 880 acres and you can catch 10 and never see a land line but I use to hunt a property that was 2200 acres and we had trouble keeping the dogs on the property because the hogs run so bad. It all varies. I like to know who the adjoining land owners are and talk to them if the property is smaller than 1000 acres.

An otter is a bad little critter! Lol! I would've though 4 dogs would eventually stretch him though.

Bucket item is seeing dogs go after hogs.

I called the cur dogs off of it once I realized what was taking place but that dude gave the bulldog all he wanted plus some.

like bayed up said some are runners, but with alpha collers it shows property lines and you can stop the dogs, usually when we hunt a new place it aint long before the adjoining land owners welcome us as well, if your hogs aint never been run with dogs generally they dont seem to run as far.
