Anyone loading burger bullets in 30-06? I'm interested in what hunting load works well for you
I know, start low and work up.... Every rifle is different... See what works for your rifle...
I'm interested in seeing if there are any commonalities in what works for different folks
Thanks!

Thanks! I would start with a 168 gr VLD Berger and IMR4350.

That's exactly what I've done
Loaded up 3 of each, 56-59gr
Do you shoot the 168gr VLD?

Nope. Just sold my aught 6. I prefer the 180 gr bullets and loaded either Hornady or Sierra 180 gr bullets over IMR4831. I use 190 gr Berger VLD's in one of my 300 win mags.

I have Sierra 180s I've messed around with. Mostly Varget and 4350. haven't tried 4831 with them
I got a 300wm I'm gonna work on in a couple weeks. What do like in it?

I have one that has a strong preference for H4831SC and I use IMR4350 in the other. R23, IMR 7977 would also be good powders with 180 gr and heavier bullets.

We think of slow burners with aught six but don't shy away from medium slows may surprise yourself. As far as your 300wm if 4831 won't work I'd be shocked.

IIRC, H4895 is the original military powder used in the 30-06 and 168 gr bullets. Good powder but you can get more velocity with a little slower burning powder like 4350.

Think it was 4895 but I wanta say 173 grain bullets then dropped to 150s to lessen recoil then the Garand was invented so they kept 4895 even though 4831 was available. On medium burn 06s knew a fellow tried 4831,7828,W760 accuracy just so so tried 4320,Rl15 ,Vihtvouri 150 and he said bad things about me everytime we shot together but that 06 was a tack driver with medium speeds.

Update...
First of all, I really need to get a chrony
56gr was just over 1", 57 and 58gr were very bad.
59gr was the winner. 0.684" 3 shot group. Gonna load up some more of those to see if the results are repeatable. Also, I'm going to load up some more test rounds beginning at 59.2gr and increasing by 0.2gr increments. 59gr showed no pressure signs, so I'm going to proceed upward.

Never reloaded the '06 but shot plenty of deer with the 168 bergers in a 308 that worked flawlessly. As far as the 300win. The 190 VLDs are about the best you can get as far as speed and knock down. Shot many deer with the 190s and 210 VLDs. Not nar a problem out of any of them. Never did shoot one with the 230s.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.
