Sooo, is it legal to hunt hogs on public land year round now? Can't seem to find a direct answer. If so, can it be with gun or does it have to be bow?

Most national forrest land you can hunt hogs with a gun or bow year round. WMA's is with the ammo legal for whatever other game is open on that particular day. In other words, if squirrel season is open...you could use 22lr. You could hunt hogs with a bow if game (e.g., deer) is in season and legal with a bow. There are other areas where you could and maybe others will chime in.

I’ll add that on WMAs, you are also restricted in ammo to what is legal for the game allowed to be taken within its season. For example, you can hunt squirrels or rabbits with a shotgun with shot no larger than ‘x’. You aren’t allowed to have buckshot or slugs, for hogs, while hunting squirrels and rabbits.

Some WMAs will allow for archery all year around for hogs.

as mentioned, nation forest land is you can hunt hogs any time with rifle, pistol, muzzleloader, now, etc. WMA’s specify any legal arms for the season that’s open, according to Al 220-2-.02 which for small game “other game birds or animals” is the following


Rifles using rimfire ammunition
or those operated by air.
Muzzleloaders and black powder
handguns of any caliber.
Long bows, compound bows, or
crossbows.
Shotguns, 10 gauge or smaller,
using standard No. 4 shot or
smaller.
Handguns or pistols.
Blowguns using darts propelled by
the hunter’s breath only.
Sling shots.
Raptors by properly permitted
falconers

The most commonly used weapons to hunt pigs during small game season would be rimfire rifle, but there are a good number that use bow and handgun too.
