I started my broccoli seed yesterday. I bought some lettuce and kale seed too. I want to start some cabbage seeds too but I’ve never planted any fall cabbage. Anybody have any recommendations on a good tasting fall variety?

I've planted Savoy before. I did like it. Bugs were bad on it IIRC. Never tried any bok choy but I'll check it out.

The heat is hard on the Chinese cabbages.

Spinosad is what I've been spraying for bugs this summer. Thuricide is good for worms.

Whatever you plant, you're gonna have to keep the bugs off somehow someway.

A good patch of rutabagas can't be beat. Let it frost on the greens and they are better than kale, turnips and all the rest of the greens. When the roots get big enough just cut them up and mix them in.

Turnips and mustard are one of our main crops for fall. You gotta spray them from the time they germinate til the day they hit the stove.

JB, I normally plant my gourds in the spring as early as possible. It takes a long season for them to grow a good thick shell

Got my fall garden in today just before a good rain. Cabbage x 12, collards x 12, cauliflower x 6, broccoli x 6, 1/2row of turnips, 1/2row of kale, 1/3row of carrots, 1/3row of romaine lettuce, 1/3row of radishes. Just a little room left should we see something else wed like to plant. Put 200lb pelletized lime on my fall garden spot about 3weeks ago and disked it in good, curious to see how it compares to last year.
