I have a need to kill some undergrowth brush between a section of large trees that was ‘thinned’ for lack of a better term . All the new sunlight has caused massive weed and brush growth that I want to get rid of in a certain area. If I’m careful with RM43 will it still be a risk to the large trees whose root system no doubt is still in the area of the brush? I’m worried about imazyper runoff after rain, or it sucking into the weed root system which could be intermingled with large diameter tree roots. I intend to just spray on the foliage and not soak soil. Thanks for the help.

I also have a fence line at church which is the primary reason I bought the RM43. I don’t care if anything grows at the fence or on the other side ever again (drops off a cliff on other side). There is privet growing up through the fence that needs killing. Will RM43 kill privet? What if I can only easily access half the privot’s foliage? Can I apply RM43 to the base of its trunk to kill it better?

Imazapyr will kill your trees thru the roots. Mix some strong Gly and use it.

Thank you. I’ll avoid using it around the trees then.

Even if imazapyr is only 0.78% in the concentrate?

So an update on this project. The area I sprayed under the trees in a very strong gly mixture died within days.

The fenceline area I sprayed with RM43 has mixed results. I mixed what I thought was a strong mix. Maybe 7-8 oz per gallon. Many of the vines and plants growing at the fence line are dead, and some of the privet have all their leaves dropped. However some of the privet looks as good as new with no browning. I tried to spray pretty heavy and used a couple tablespoons of dawn as surfactant. The privet that looks unaffected are bigger ones which I don’t know if I completely covered due to height. I thought I would at least see strong browning from stress.

Any ideas? I want this privet dead and not to come back. I’m going to cut it all down, but my ideas was to spray it with something that would kill it and prevent regrowth at the root level before I saw it down.

If the privet isn’t browning, you didn’t spray it with gly. You must’ve missed it accidentally. I just sprayed some within the month and it’s deader than a door nail. Go back and hit it again.

I'm mixing my own brew of 73% glysophate at 1.5 Oz and 53% imazapyr at 0.5 Oz per gallon.
That recipe will cure your unwanted vegetation problems.

Thx guys. Sounds like I need to just go back and be more heavy handed with it using a strong mix

73% gly available to us unlicensed folks?

In a granular form, yes. It's called Roundup Quick Pro.
It's water soluble and you can buy it in 7lb jugs or 1.5 Oz packets. Tractor supply usually carries the packets.

You do know quick pro has diquat in it don’t you? Cousin to paraquat (gramoxone). That’s what really makes it kill fast for you.

I didn't know that (or either of those chemicals). Thanks for the info. I'll check it out for sure.

Yes I know. Add imazapyr and it's the bomb.

To much Diquat or Syth and you will not get a good kill. Both of those are good for fast burn down, to fast and the gly wont have time to do its thing.

Does the diquat have any residual or is it over and done like gly? Im getting good kills with my spraying but a month later a new batch has grown and taken its place.

Don’t use dish detergent as a “surfactant”. Most contain both anionic and nonionic the combination of these with some chemicals can cause unintended results.

Diquat is strictly contact kill. No residual. No systemic properties at all

10-4. Can you recommend a surfactant for the average layperson to order off Amazon or get at Tractor Supply/etc? Thanks!

A non ionic 90/10 is best. 80/20 would suffice if you can’t find 90/10.

Have a recommendation for a graveled parking area and trees creeping into its edges? Its at our lease and well away from anything to worry bout something leaching to somewhere it doesnt need to go. if anything bordering it gets the effects from it its no problem. Just would like something to hold the regrowth back longer.

Imazypyr plus diuron plus gly. Works like a charm. Pretty much making your own product called Sahara

that and it mixed with used oil is what they used to do at work. Kept the dust down also smile The landowner doesnt mind us killing the stuff but not sure how they feel about the diesel. But I agree it works

Diesel will definitely work, but you add another $3.50 + per gallon to the spray.

Not really. You mix it up with used motor oil, about 3:1, and it will drop the cost significantly. Especially when you are buying off road diesel and already have gallons of used oil available.

Spraying the parking area at your deer lease with used motor oil and diesel fuel?

Makes sense to me.
