Summer of '76 in Paris, TX. I was 17 and worked on a TX Highway Dept survey crew. They paved a 35-mile stretch with asphalt going east toward Clarksville. My job was to hammer a market (called a blue top spike) into the asphalt every 50' for the entire stretch. Hard to describe that kind of constant intense heat.

July 97, 100 degree day at 1pm. House fire buried in the walls. Hard to find. We had exhausted all of our air trying to make interior attacks. Didn't have thermal i.aging cameras then. Was there for a looong time trying to find the seat of the fire with heavy smoke. I was walking around the exterior checking on the others when I blacked out. I don't remember hitting the ground but the medics saw me do it. Woke up a few minutes later with 2 IV's and 1000cc of fluids in me and went back to work. Once you've hit that level of overheating you never let it happen again. Its damned hard to ever fully be able to take that kind of heat again.

Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
