Any of y’all had/have scoliosis?

Just wandering a little about it... does/has it held you back from being able to do anything (sport activities and such)? Is there any back pain?

My little baby boy (he is about to be 1) seems to have scoliosis and I haven’t had him diagnosed yet, but I can tell his spine has a little bend to it. Just wandering if any of y’all have any experience with this... I’d like to know a little about it before I go sit down with a specialist about it. Looks like some kids have cast they wear for along time, others have a brace, and I’ve read some about surgery...

I would recommend having it checked out early, as it can get worse during puberty. I know people that have had it bad enough for surgery, and also people that didn’t need anything as the doctors deemed it not bad enough.

My daughter has a mild case of it that was not identified until her late teens. She has some mild back pain but it doesn't limit her at this point.

take him to the doc - they may be able to straighten it while he is young.

I have it and it it hard for me to stand for along period of time. Of course being fat, doesn't help either.

I have an “S” shaped curve in my spine. One of my parents noticed that one of my shoulders was lower than the other one. This was when I was 17 or 18 and was beyond the age for a brace. My doctor told me basically to get ready for some arthritis as I get older. He recommended surgery as a last resort. He said he’s seen a lot of people have a great deal of issues after surgery. I have some issues sitting in a chair for a long period of time.

The good thing is you have caught it early. Just as mentioned above, I would take him to the doctor sooner than later.

I have it and when young Dr didn’t think it was bad enough to mess with. I played hockey for 12 yrs which I’m sure didn’t help and now at 50 I can’t stand for long periods and have back pain from time to time. I to have the s curve

I have it and was diagnosed around 13. I know there are different degrees of severity but my left shoulder is slightly lower than my right. It has not hindered me as far as pain. In 2010 I pulled 620lbs deadlifting which was triple body weight pull for me. Lamar Gant had the world record deadlift in his weight class and had scoliosis. I’m almost 46 and still lift without issues.

I had asked about this awhile ago but I wanted to show y’all afew pictures of my boys process of scoliosis correction. He’s doing good, his curve went from 75-25 degrees in the cast, and now wears a brace about 20 hrs a day, and his bend isn’t increasing or decreasing but hoping with growth spurts he straightens out with time!

This was at age one in the cast!

That's a fine little man you have there! Modern medicine and understanding abnormalities have been able to help millions overcome health issues and it appears that your son is on the right track. Praying for all to go well.

Glad it was caught and on the road to healing.
My brother’s was never diagnosed. He’s got a lot of back pain as an adult.
They’d pull him aside for a 2nd look when they did those checks at school but never said he had it. Never sent note home.

My wife had the surgery as a teenager and has back pain every day. Get it checked ASAP.

Awesome. Good decision to attack this while he is very young.

Lived with it all my life. I can't sit or lay down for too long or my back will hurt. I cant stand up for too long or my back will hurt. Constantly having to change positions so my back won't hurt. Misaligned pelvis doesn't help much either. I can still drag a deer out of the woods and haul a summit viper on my back so I'm doing well. He's just going to have to learn to live with it and please teach him some self reliance. The last thing he needs is to grow up thinking he is disabled. Fine young man there congrats.
