Mobile Al,
I’m always interested to hear what you gun gurus have to say about certain calibers. What do y’all think of the WSSM calibers? I like the idea of a light short action rifle with that type of performance! Looking at picking up a 25 wssm now that ammo is available at most online retailers. Any feedback appreciated as usual

270wsm is a killa!

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

They are lightweight and effective, go ahead and stock up on you some ammo and components also if you reload.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Yup 100%, I would purchase plenty of components so when that source dries up next quarter it's not the typical WSSM sob story.

It will be years before they manufacture another lot of 25 WSSM Ammo. Demand is too low. I've had several people ask me to load for 25 WSSM in the past few years because they couldn't find ammo, but you can't load it if you don't have the brass. Some of these folks bought the rifles because the thought they were getting a great deal on a gun. Truth was the sellers were trying to dump a useless hunk of steel because they couldn't find ammo.

If you find ammo, buy at least 500 rounds, because once current supply is exhausted, you may not see it again for years.

The WSSM cartridges were an answer to a question no one was asking.

AC’s basic rule: no oddball calibers.

There's a difference between oddball cartridges and cartridges that were DOA. The 25 WSSM falls into the latter category for many reasons. The ballistics are only slightly better than a 257 Roberts and not as good as a 25-06. Second, the guns are a special short action that is only good for WSSM cartridges. You can't rebarrel it to any other type cartridge. If they ever stop making brass and ammo for good, which is likely to happen eventually, only thing you have is a gun to hang above the mantle.

A stupid concept.

Yup, it's one thing to get a crazy oddball in a standard short or long action, if it disappears, no problem use the action for a project in a different caliber.

I saw several boxes of 25 WSSM shells in a gun shop in central FL a while back. Wouldn't surprise me if they are still there. They probably had 10 boxes and it wasn't priced too bad. I don't go there any more because I'm not crazy about the people who run it. If anybody wants their contact info to see if they still have it and will ship it, just holler.

I think anyone interested missed the window to lay in a supply of brass & loaded ammo, oh about 7-8 years ago.

My wife has two .25wssm rifles, both a-bolts. My son has .243wssm, also in a-bolt. Ammo was dry for a couple of years, never ran out but got expensive and hard to find. At the moment, plenty of .25 ammo to be had and prices back down to an average $35/box. I bought 6 cases and no more than wife shoots, should last the rest of our lives.
As far as performance, as mentioned above, very close to 25-06. The gun is ideal for women, people with somewhat of a disability, or younger kids due to zero recoil and basically no hold-over out to 300yds, most in this class aren't going to shoot that far anyway.
If you shoot a lot, I wouldn't recommend getting a wssm. If you do get one, spend the money on the best mount/scope setup that you can to keep zeroing at a minimum. Out of twelve years of owning these, I've only had to do the annual "check" shot to verify zero (or if gun was dropped), never had to make an adjustment or re-sight.
Wife has killed twelve mature bucks(two at +300yds) with hers, missed three, and lost zero.

Ar1220, I feel the same, even though my wife carries the .25wssm, out of fourteen deer rifles, I find my self carrying the trusty 30-06 99% of the time. I guess I'm a gun hoarder, can't seem to part with any, they just safe queens.
