Just learned today there is a new forever wild area close to where I live. Has anybody hunted any of the other ones around the state? I don’t know if I would ever try it or not. The only reason I would is the deer here start their rut a few weeks earlier than the deer at my club.

Some are off limits to hunting completely. That looks like one of them. I think it’s more recreational based for hiking, biking, and swimming. I could be wrong but here’s the website where it is listed .

I don’t see it on the hunting regs Link

I called and left a message with the director of lands. I have not heard back from him but just looking at the website it looks like hunting won't be allowed.

That "park" was built by Shelby Co. For years that area, known as the slab, was a place that folks would hang out and party. There were a couple murders there and lots of drug activity. Now they have created a nice place for folks to hike and bike. There is a park manager that lives on site.

I've heard of one of the local Jeep/Offroad clubs going "riding at the slab"....always wondered what they were talking about.

The slab is an old underwater bridge (concrete slab). There used to be a bunch of good Jeep trails out there but I havent been in years.

Some land in that area of the county was part of the Cahaba WMA and bow only last year. But there may be another set of land or the rules may change this year.

The new park is separate from the bow only land that is a part of the Cahaba River WMA.

You can all thank Tim Webster for that land. Follow the $$$$. Lots of good bucks out there.
