Anybody got any outfitters they recommend for a black bear hunt? preferably in Maine or New Brunswick.

Not sure what made you pick those 2 places but, if I were gonna do a black bear hunt I'd ask myself a few questions
1. What type of hunting do I want to do
2. How much do I want to spend
3. What size animal am I looking for
4. Do I want a color phase bear

After that, id start digging around for guides. You may have done that already but, thats how id roll.

Cedar Ridge Outfitters, Jackman, Maine
I hunted deer with them a few times a number of years ago.
Their Bear harvest total was very good, excellent food and nice Cabins.
Business has a new owner, not sure of current success rate.

I went to Alberta to hunt at Mikes Outfitters, I always wanted a color phase so I studied and Mikes gave me the best chance. You get 2 bears, if you don't kill a second you get money back. I hunted for 4 days and saw 20+ bears. I ended up killing a 7'3" squared chocolate bear at 17 yards. Unbelievable place and the folks were amazing.

Nice bears. Get with BGH. He’s got a contact in Saskatchewan that will put you on big bears. Killed a 400 lb black last year.

Back Woods Guide Service in Carribou Maine is a good one. I hunted with him last year. Ask for Jesse. One spot that I hunted was within sight of the Canadian boarder. He runs about 75 bait stations. I think they are all black, no color phase bears that anyone in our group seen.

If a trophy is what you are after go with the San Carlos Apaches in AZ. Since it is on the reservation, they make the rules. Biggest Black Bears around, but not cheap.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I’ve have a friend that has been going there for a few years. This year 3 of the 5 in group harvested on first day of hunt. Other 2 tagged 2nd day. I paid my deposit for next season. This wouldn’t be the place for you though...he said beer was $48 per case.

One of the owners is from LaGrange, GA

Saskatchewan , Alberta or Manitoba are the go to places, or at least used to be. I killed a Cinnamon color phase in Saskatchewan back in the 90's . Not monster big but a beautiful color.

The guy BGH sent us with is very near that area. I’m telling y’all, it doesn’t get any better than that. Call BGH.

NC is supposed to have some heavy bears.

83% of all statistics are made up.

This is 100% accurate. The areas along the coast have some seriously big bears (think 400-500+ lbs). There are a few good outfitters that have high success rates but I’m not sure you’d get into any color phase bears out there. BGH probably knows a few good ones there and a hunting forum I’m on has a member that has guided out there. I can get info from him if desired.

If you want to go to Canada for the experience then I completely understand that. Just got back from a road trip to Canada and while their politics are a little different in the major cities I think you’d be surprised how much the rural folks are just like us. The scenery is pretty awesome too.
