For those of you that have done this - using some type of low fencing to keep hogs out, have you seen fewer hogs? Seems to me that our hogs don't come around much unless there is "supplemental feeding" going on. Obviously, that will turn to full on bait next year for a bunch of folks.

I know it works to keep hogs out of your feeding stations, but does it actually work to move them to other properties?

Keeps them off the feeder and that's about it. Only extreme pressure will move them.

I think it’s an effective deterrent in my experience and worth the effort. Hogs will hammer a feeding station and dominate it once they know it’s location. Cut cattle panels in half and make a big circle around the feed. You don’t want a single kernel falling outside the pen if it’s a broadcast type feeder. Will it keep them off of your place altogether? That depends on what other food sources, water, cover and pressure are there.....

I have had three unsuccessful attempts at this. Using cattle panels cut in half and T-bars. They have tunneled under, broken through, and jumped over. People say a hog can't jump but I have pictures to prove otherwise. I am going to double my T-bars this year. I had them at 7-8' spacing originally. I have had them walk around for two straight days trying to get in the enclosure. Once they get in it is over. I am positive I built this incorrectly and it can be done effectively. It is just taking us trial and error to figure it out.

You need to use the same type of panels that you would typically use for building a hog trap. Smaller holes at the bottom to keep the little piglets out of the feeding area. We plan to have some areas that are enclosed but will also continue to run our traps so hopefully that is where the hogs will visit regularly. I don't think there is any proven method to remove them from your land, if you do figure it out, just let me know and I will invest in your system and we can become millionaires over night.

Gravity feeders eliminated 95% of hogs from getting any feed with us. They may get a few pieces that the deer spill out but before hogs were cleaning up almost all the broadcast feeders cast.

Thanks. Which ones did you use? Or were they a certain height?

We have a feeder with a 34" tall hog panel circle around it. Feeder is in middle and is a spin feeder but we added a 12" piece of plastic culvert under feeder (around the spinner). Timer goes off and the corn hits the culvert and drops almost straight down. We set timer at 8am and 4pm, and had deer coming to it as soon as spinner started running (you can hear it).

No hogs have gotten through the panel fence. I think it is 8 panels 16' long and we used 32 T posts, about one every 4 feet. We drive the T post so top of it is even with top of panel, so it is deeper than a usual barbwire fence. Very sturdy.

6 panels 12 t-post. 30' diameter pen. Mark center and pull 15' string and mark circumference. Set first post then center first panel on post. Work panels and post around perimeter until completed.
